Forwardlook member John Quinn posted this very unusual factory short wave radio on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110434692384&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT

Rare Mopar Export Short Wave Converter, This is rarer than the Highway Hi Fi record player. This radio (Model X101) is brand new, original Box is included. My father was a Engineer with Chrysler back in 1959 (till 1985) and he received this radio when a bunch of Chrysler 300's and New Yorkers were damaged in shipment when a railcar tipped over in Arizona enroute to Mexico and Central America.

The damaged cars were shipped back to Chrysler's Jefferson Ave. Plant for repairs if possible. New cars were shipped out to replace the damaged ones, but in each one of these original export Chryslers that had shipped out had one of these Short Wave Convertors in the trunk. The repaired cars were sold again to US Dealers but they removed these radios and gave some of them to some of the Chrysler Plant workers, One of the plant workers gave this to my dad since he liked the short wave radio hobby,

Dad never used it, Well, he put it in our 59 Plymouth Station Wagon once , But my Mom made him take it out right away! Good for Mom since the radio would have been gone all these years and probably crushed with the car. Dad kept the radio all these years and he gave it to me when I picked up a 59 Belvedere Convert 4 years ago. I think this would be better used on a Chrysler 300, New Yorker or De Soto then a lower trim level Plymouth. maybe one of the Sport Fury trim levels would be a good home for it. I am putting in under dash AC unit in my car that is period correct for my car and so there is little room to install this radio under the dash.

Hopefully, Some one can appreciate the uniqueness of this Export Radio PN1779144  Chrysler 300 Dodge DeSoto Plymouth Imperial New Yorker Forward Look.

Good luck!

Wow I've never seen (or heard of) anything like that. That is pretty cool.

The biggest-bummer about this guy is the apparent lack of the OEM mounting hardware for it.

Hi Lancer Mike,

I was wondering if you happen to still have this SW radio ?? If no, what did you finally sell it for ?

Thanks Rick

It was mine and I did sell it a couple years ago and it went over to Europe some where. I should have kept it and put it in my 59 Plymouth. My father did mount it once in our 59 Plymouth wagon in the early 60's I thought he had not used it, but a couple months ago he mentioned he did in fact use it but Mom hated the static and reception so back in the box it went.

Neil, it did have the mounting hardware it was in a Manila envelope.

I have the 913X-HR radio to which one of these X-101 converters must be hooked up. Would be VERY interested in purchasing an X-101.

Yes, I know the original thread is 10 years old. Anyone have an X-101 on the shelf or in a car? Even have just the instruction sheet? Anything? Thanks
