Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | If you actually have wheel BOLT rather than lug NUTS then someone before you has changed things over, for some reason. No 1957 Fireflite had wheel BOLTS. Edited by 57desoto 2009-12-04 7:15 AM

Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | I think He dozed off , for a second. It He means the Dodge on the left side of the Desoto (To the right as you look at the picture), that would most likely be a 58 Dodge, (Maybe a 57). The 59 Dodges did not have trim high on the fins, like the red & white car there, does. Gary

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Ah, well; it's GOOD to see a "Firestone 500" tire, again; even in 'this' condition. My daddy, who insured a Fart dealership, in the 60's and who, therefore, felt compelled to buy a 62 Sunliner and a 65 Galactical 500 convertibles, had these tires installed on the 65. They were/are nylon cord, and became 'square', after standing-still for a while, but I took a tire-touch up/marking pen and highlighted the names and flags on them; looked good.

Location: Parts Unknown | You gotta be joking. You think 58 is the best looking Chev ever made ? Is it that clenched buns rear end ? ... or the blunt, garish front ? Or is it the unrelated, and excessive application of disjointed trim elements ? Let's not even get into ponderous pig they are to drive or work on. I find it hard to believe Chev could even GIVE these away when Mopar was offering their wares across town. Yuck ! Keep the DeSoto !

Location: Parts Unknown | The garage photo above catches that angle on the subtle curves of those "eyebrows" on these cars that makes these my absolute favorite Forward Look car. Almost a feline look ... of a cat's forward-tilted ear. Utter brilliance in tucking two headlights into that tight spot. And the way Lord Exner made it work with the various 57 and 58 models and grille incarnations. One of his finest design elements.

I still wish you hadn't put the Adventurer interior into the black Fireflite, though... Almost makes it look like another clone. Edited by 57desoto 2009-12-05 7:40 AM

Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | That Desoto is GEORGEOUS!! I'm really glad you decided to do it "Your Way". Sometimes "We" forget how hard it would be to find one of these that are "Real" (from the factory) and It certainly is Great to see another example of Probably what was the Greatest and most beautiful Desoto ever made. When I had my 57 Firesweep back in the Early 60's it had a grey and black interior too as did the 59 Dodge convertible I now have. I see nothing wrong with putting together a car that shows what Chrysler could do, back then, I think your interior is gorgeous, and "Most Folks" that see that car are gonna enjoy it with the present interior and Paint Scheme much more so , than what it was "Born with". (You certainly are not trying to fool anybody evidenced by the script on the fins)!!!! I could have a white Dodge convertible, with a blue top and a black and grey snowflake interior---with a 326 and non swing-out seats--Yeah "Politically Correct" but as I bought mine to drive and enjoy and share with other folks, The ones that "Count" Me and-----are enjoying the car as She is "Now", not as she was born. Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | Chad, your car's workmanship is fabulous, and I have/had no intention of being overly critical. Indeed, as I said, I'm jealous. I always vote for original over modified, as most folks here know, unless "correct" parts are no longer available. Replicas of the original interior are available, and the Adventurer interior could not have been ordered for your Fireflite. That was my only point. You certainly have the right to "make" your car the way you want it to be, and 1959Dodge's point is well taken that you are not trying to pass this Fireflite off as an Adventurer, so my hat's off to you.

Location: Parts Unknown | Are you saying that you preferred the tan Adventurer interior materials over the color variety and cloths available for the Fireflite ? Interesting. One of my biggest motivations for selling my Adventurer and going with the Fireflite was the more exciting choices on the interior. That is a beautiful bunch of cars you have there.

Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | That top sure looks nice on the Desoto. Is it canvas? Next year I want to redo the top on mine which is white vinyl and has little tears on each side from a bad install by the seller. I will go with a black top, probably vinyl, but I sure do like the look of yours. Aivar's wrencher, Warne tells me that if a bird drops on those canvas tops, You just "Wear it" very difficult to clean. He tells me there is a vinyl like material that looks like canvas but cleans like vinly that I may look into to---Thanks Gary Edited by 1959Dodge 2009-12-05 3:53 PM

Location: Parts Unknown | I am going black canvas on mine, but I WANT it to weather to an off-black / DARK grey to match the charcoal sweep. Aivar may be right about them being hard to keep that super new black, but if you are going to drive the car, you have to lose that "perfect" thinking. It is going to show wear.

Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | Yep I drive mine everyday, my concern was removing the "Explosive Bird Discharges" from the top. Börje's top thou , still looks pretty good, alto the car is rarely driven. I will check with Warne again on the top material He is suggesting--maybe He's onto something? Gary
