ok , no problem for welding pot metal , also in italy , bit i read is not possible chrome
springsweptwing - 2012-04-21 10:20 PM here raffaele, this is low temparature so wont melt the metal zemak (pot metal) first http://www.muggyweld.com/?view=super1 http://www.muggyweld.com/?view=super1clip4... http://www.muggyweld.com/?view=super1clip15 other products have a higher melting point risking damaging what you are trying to repair.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Typically, the 57-59 Dodges will have their engine numbers or VINS (1959) stamped on this loaction. This frame is a 58 300D, so, nothing was stamped in this location. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Yeah, those easy-to-see numbers are the frame's P/N; the engine number is very-lightly hand-stamped through the frame paint, where I indicate. The engine number can be very difficult to see, and usually only the lower half of the engine number got imprinted into the frame steel. In my car's case, if you already know the engine number, you can recognize it in what little appears in the steel. The partial-strike, through the paint, implies that the engine number was struck after the body was mated to the frame and that there was not much room for the guy to swing his hammer.

He bought it from another gentleman that I sold it to in Italy. So these would be the second stop on it's tour of Italy. Which one is you Raffaele?

Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | I'm getting the same answer, Paul...my "DeSoto Bible" also seems to be stating that "White" was the Adventurer white for 1957 - PPG 8036 Dupont 2355,246-59835, 93-59835 (from what I read, "Cloud White" and "Frosty White" were Firesweep colours, California and Michigan factories respectively - all three colours will have the same paint code "L" on the cowl tag)

I left a message with Ed to see if he is available. I'll keep looking. Edited by FIN ME 2012-05-15 3:58 PM

Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | RAFFAELE - I checked the colour chart on Ed Petrus 1957 DeSoto site, and he DOES make reference to the "Surf White" being an Adventurer only white for the 1957. Hopefully Ed or someone else will know of a paint company that manufactures this colour and the correct order number. Hang in there! Edited by FIN ME 2012-05-15 4:00 PM

Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | I cannot find enough information to be sure if the "white" or "frost white" are different than the "surf white"...but Adventurers seemed to have several "Adventurer only" features, so I'd wait to hear from Ed to be sure. Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | Raffaele, any bright white is fine. I used white paint for 2004-2005 Dodge Vipers, and it is called Viper White. All I can see from the can label is that it's Dupont, and there is a number 738476K written on it. Believe it or not, the gold is harder to do. I've seen DOZENS of Adventurers, and with many different shades of gold, so it's really hard to say what is correct. Tower Paint custom mixes colors for every car imaginable. I bought a spray can of 1957 DeSoto Adventurer gold just to see what it looked like. Supposedly correct, it was obviously wrong. The underside of my trunk lid has never been painted except at the factory, so that is what I use to compare colors, and for comparison with other cars. In my case, I had our local Dupont paint supplier custom-match the underside of the trunk. What he came up with, believe it or not, is International Harvester Gold. In Dupont Chromabase, the can is marked F2637K. I've given this same information out to several other '57 Adventurer restorers, and very few people have argued with me that the color is wrong. Should anyone do so, all I have to do is open the trunk and they can see the very close match of the IH paint to factory DeSoto.
