I'm been sitting on these pics for a while - thought these pics would brighten this snowy week for all affected by the current inclement weather covering much of the country.

John Staluppi opens up his personal collection/museum once a year to the public for charity. There is an extensive write-up about him and his collection, along with more photographs.

If you're in South Florida next October, it's well-worth seeing.

Enjoy!

Thanks Chopper John since we saw the 60 Polara coupe on another thread here is a red D-500 Polara Convertible. This another clone or is it Sean Machado's on loan? TIA

I went to the website and it indicates the collection is in a private museum in a shopping center. Thus, it looks like the cars stay put all year and what we are seeing in the pictures is the museum. Quite inpressive.

I live very close to one of the best collections in America....that of Milton Robson, north of Atlanta. Among his treasures is the only 1960 300F Special convertible made. He has more than 60 cars on display set among an old west town, vintage filling station, and vintage repair facilities. Once in a while he will open the display to car groups.

I worked fo Staluppi for 10 years on LI, in NYS, he owns car dealerships in NY and FLa. He is a big car guy and was a great person to work for. The cars are at this location permanently. He duplicated the neighborhoods he grew up in Brooklyn, NY.

Staluppi's blue car is a clone, but the red car is the third-of-three real D500 Polara convertibles known to exist.

Of the three verts, one is red (Staluppi's) and the other two are white, and blue (Sean's re-painted 'red' car, with a blue
interior, originally, and, Sean's all-blue car---presently being restored.)

Sean has said that he might just do the right-thing, and return his re-painted red car to its glorious OEM paint/trim
schemes, as each car has its own true identity.

There were actually seven all-blue verts built, in the St Louis plant, which were distributed to various sales-zones
for publicity purposes.

Sean's car, IIRC, was sent out to Portland, and, recently, there had been a(n unfounded, it turned out) rumor that another
of the blue verts might have been discovered in the MN-area.

Stalupp's got the identification wrong, on the 1959 Imperial.

As in GT with shorts rams and 4 speed Pont a Mousson. Here's the low down on this 1 of 1 From Welcome to 300 Country

One white convertible has been documented, serial number 8403-141816. This car was originally sold to George Kuehm of Milwaukee, and was later  owned by George Cone and Bruce Hoover. It was recently owned  by Tom Turner, and is now  in the private collection of Milton Robson of Atlanta, GA. This car was discovered in a northern Michigan estate near Duck Lake in 1978, languishing in a garage and showing only 11,040 miles. Fully documented with a bill of sale from the Edwards Motor Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the car had a sticker price of $7,158.30.  It is the only 300 GT Special convertible in existence. Much promotion was given to the idea this mileage is correct and that the car is vastly original and untouched.  That is absolutely not true; it required major restoration and parts replacement according to GT owner Wayne Graefen. Perhaps that was 111,000 miles, huh?

This car was listed for sale in Cars and Parts  in 2000 with an asking price of $225,000. The car was advertised at numerous prices over at least a decade.  It did not sell even close to the final asking price.

Here's a list of what was different about the 300F Special GT

Pont-A-Mousson steel-cased 4-speed transmission painted Chrysler Aluminum color, modified floor pan.

Special cast bell housing to adapt motor to transmission.

1.74" exhaust valves

No hood pad

Truck flywheel, clutch assembly, and disc to accept Pont-A-Mousson  shaft, truck linkage.

Clutch and brake pedal set from a manual transmission Plymouth or Dodge.

1960 - 1962 short rams ( part numbers  2129986 - 7) complete with brass hot water fittings. 1963 - 1964 short rams are different castings and are exhaust heated.

Carter 3084S carburetors with manual chokes.

Long air cleaner studs  (4)

Chrysler part number 1670694 air filter elements  (2)

Silicone spark plug wires (mauve in color)

1960 - 1961   3" 4-bolt cast iron headers ( part numbers 2129998 - 9)  1962 - 1964 headers are different castings.

2.5" exhaust pipes and low back pressure Arvin mufflers.

1960 Imperial alternator.

Mechanical racing camshaft  284 - 284 - 55 degrees and solid lifters. Some say there were no published specs for this cam.

2.93 : 1 Sure-Grip differential

Console aluminum insert without ashtray cutout

Ribbed aluminum plate to block off automatic transmission pushbuttons with toggle switch for backup lights

10' Bowden choke cables, (2) steel choke cable brackets, manifold water T-fittings, 12' HD heater hose.

The F Special's $800 option price doesn't sound like much today, but in 1960 it was a hefty cost, equaling nearly 20 percent of the car's base cost. (They lost money on every one they built) Today, that would be like a $5,000 option on a $30,000 car. Ouch. The floor pans had to be modified, among other things, which added to the cost. Was it worth the money? Depends on how fast you wanted to go. For the average Joe, no way. The car idled and ran rougher than the normal F and had a rather hefty appetite for premium fuel. But for the race car drivers, yeah........... gimme one of those.

And here is a link to a living the high life with a GT out of the box...enjoy

Thanks y'all for answering all the questions. It is indeed an impressive collection. It would be nice to see it open more than one day a year.

If I'm correct, the building in which it is housed is an old Wal-Mart - a pretty darn big building!

The 300s are the first group of cars you see when you walk in the door - right after 1960s Batmobile and Batcycle recreations! He definitely likes his 300s.

There are about 2-3 dozen 1955/56/57 Chebbies in one corner of the museum - they're all parked bumper-to-bumper and door-to-door - hardly a one can you get a good look at - not like the 300s and other Mopars, which seem to be John Staluppi's favorites.

The only other collection I've ever seen like this is a heart surgeon's collection in Coral Springs, Florida - he's primarily a GM guy, and is the type of guy who restores an ordinary four-door 1964 Cadillac Sedan DeVille to the same impossibly high national show-winning standards that he restores a 1953 Buick Skylark convertible, a 1953 Olds Fiesta convertible and a 1953 Cadillac Eldorado convertible - of which he has one each also.

Like Staluppi, the surgeon also has a facade of a Cadillac dealership inside the building - but Staluppi's is a three-dimensional building, and the surgeon's is a full-scale wall poster with his family members browsing new 1960s Cadillacs in an imaginary dealership.

Now I see the "Chrysler Crown Imperial Convertible" instead of the more accurate "Imperial Crown Convertible".

Got a request that will make following threads easier ... when posting a bunch of photos, add a single photo with the message and post, adding a second post with the rest of the pix. This allows a viewer to click on the "bottom" advance without a lot of scrolling when the thread gets long.

Some times we have a lot of pix to post, but if a viewer has seen them but wants to just visit the most current posts at the end of the thread, they are forced to scroll until the end of the first post before the "bottom" icon appears. As a thread gets long, this can involve many visits and a whole big heap of scrolling !!!

Thanks !

Just hit the "End" or "Page Down"-key on your keyboard. Same effect, only faster
