Ian, ... you better get a proper Saratoga grille in that car of yours. You are misleading the
unwashed masses into thinking that recessed job is standard Saratoga fare !

I'm keeping the NYer grille, but if there was an el-cheapo method that I could get rid of those black bumper guards..........

phurious - 2010-08-01 4:27 PM Did any notice the rear lower bumper on the fron t bumper of the 57 Belvedere drop top? That's weird... Here's a FL Dodge that I saw a couple months ago, all I had to take pictures wiht was my iphone. Not sure of the year and model, but I'm quite sure someone here knows. Spotted in Paoli, PA headed east on Route 30 towards Philadelphia. PA Antique Historic Tags do not allow you to drive at night, bad Dodge...

Sorry for the quote of a two year old post, but is that right? You aren't allowed to drive a car AT NIGHT if it has Pennsylvania Historical plates? What's the rationale behind that ruling if true? Any Pennsylvania collectors care to comment?

EDIT: No need to comment. I see from a post made a little after the original one was made explains that the confusion stemmed from a mis-reading of the pertinent PA Motor Vehicle statutes. Cars with PA Historical tags CAN drive after dark so long as they have the correct lighting equipment.

Ian,

They aren't stock, and were left to be re-installed after the bumper was re-plated, before I bought the car. Chryslers didn't get front bumper guards in 1960, but the DeSotos got nice ones at the outboard lower edges. This is an old photo but shows them clearly. So what the deal is, is that I would have to have the holes filled/ welded up and the bumper re-plated just to get rid of these ugly things.

A wrecking yard in the middle of nowhere, Oregon had a number of interesting cars scattered
in the sage brush. When asked about 50's Mopars, the owner said "Not a chance. This here is
derby country !"

Doc,

Was that yard pictured Albert Beachler's place in Paisley Oregon, about 60 miles Northeast of Lakeview? I bought a '57 Belvedere 4-door hardtop from him, and he still had two '59 Plymouth wagons, and a stripped out '57 DeSoto sedan.

The cars you spied in Lakeview belong to Bobs car lot, he plays with vintage cars on the side. Both these guys are good to deal with.

The red '60 Dodge is still visible heading north out of K falls on the east side of the highway..

The first place was BF Egypt. Not terribly far south of Burns and Hines, and a mother of all thunderstorms
NE of Lakeview (see pic !) I saw none of the cars you mentioned ... no FL cars at all.

Lakeview isn't very big. You are probably right on that one. They guy had a number of oldies, many were
Brand X.

It probably was Paisley, then, as there are no other places along that highway with collections of cars visible from the road. Alsoo, the three Plymouths I mentioned were being stored there for Bob in Lakeview, so they may have been moved in more recently, depending on the time of your visit.

I know the owners of Wildcat personally, I refer folks to them that are looking for muscle era cars or parts, and they have very little Forward Look cars, and get referrals from them on FL parts. They may have gtotten some new ones in lately, though.

It's also great on cars that don't have Jiffey Jets!

The stuff truly does work, but, I shooda put another application of it onto the W/S, before leaving Tulsa.

It does not last for a very long time, with the wipers operating against its film barrier.

Yeah, .. if left without using the wipers, and occasionally washed of road film, it lasts
quite some time ... maybe a month in a daily use Spokane winter ?

But turn on the wipers, and it is all over in a day.

Back to car spotting ....

Saw this beast while on my way to get my hair squared up before coming back from leave.

It was at Silver Auctions. Probably still available, if someone wanted to contact them. Sign
on the windshield said "no reserve".

Finally saw a FL at a local car show. National Capitol Region chapter of AACA at Solomon's Island, MD, Saturday, June 16, 2012.

58 Dodge Coronet.

I told him all about this group and he told me about the grand total of four or five FLs that he knows of in the VA/DC/MD/PA area.

He said he would check us out and gave his permission for me to put up these photos.

Deduct 50% from final score for contrived drive-in movie speaker and window tray of fake food.

Neat car though .... lo-bux Coronet 4HT with Powerflite and A/C ... something of an unusual car !

The props were fun, he was certainly all about the motif.

Sadly though I think they had almost as many trophys as cars - about 50 of each.

I asked the chapter folks about joining and they told me this is their only main show each year.

Then they told me it ain't like it used to be with most of the membership dying off.

Indeed most of the car owners there were....well....let's just say substantially aged.

It made me a little sad. I'll join after I get my Belvy home and we'll see how things go after a meeting or two.

By the way there was a mammoth and beautiful black two door Packard there with a 502ci motor, new tranny, and Corvette suspension.

It was a '36 model perhaps? Owners weren't around. FLers are number one in my book but that Packard was da bomb!

That's the post-initial-production (as opposed to mid-year-) "Saddle Trim" paint motif on that Coronet.

Nice car; if I had it, with its very nice original condition interior, I'd spend the money, or save for it, and get the
2-tone-blue steering wheel properly restored, instead of merely painted in blue.

An interesting import truck that came to the Wednesday night cruise-in at the Gilmore Automobile Heritage complex while the W.P.C. Club was there. I'm not a big fan of rice grinders, but I've never seen one like this before. It's supposed to be a 1965 Toyota Stout mini-truck.

I worked on one for a customer in Reno that had it since new. Wasn't a whole lot exciting about it in my opinion. I don't think Toyota had much dealer support except on the western seaboard in those days, as they were still dealing with backlash from the Toyopet car a few years earlier which was a complete flop.

Nope. It was apparently never sold east of the Rockies (like Coors Beer as they say) The only Jap mini-truck that I remember seeing around here in the East in the early 1970s was the Datsun (Nissan); in fact my uncle had a 1972 model for his work truck. (He was a TV repairman

Forward Look Car Spotting: At the W.P.C. National Meet there were two 1960 Imperials. They were owned by two different men as near as I could figure, but it was nice to see them and they didn't appear to be trailer queens. They parked next to each other on the day of the show, but it made for a hard choice to pick which one should get the first place trophy.

At a small local car meet, this 1960 New Yorker convertible with a couple of extra trim pieces:

This 1960 wagon was poorly "restored", but still pretty cool. Talked to the owners and it's their daily driver:

Not a car per se, but this is a very cool sign. I spoke with the owner and I might end up trading another sign for this one:

Last Friday evening (Aug 3rd) around 6:30, my girlfriend and I were driving South on I-81 just below of Chambersburg,PA (In her soon to be gone and replaced w/a MOPAR, 07 Camry oil burner) and saw a tan 58 Fury just cruising along in the right lane, she was going to take a pic but her digital camera was in the trunk :O( so she held up her Forward Look T-shirt w/ the red 58 on it as we passed but the guy didn't look. She even thought it was so kool to see and remarked that too bad we weren't in our Desoto, that would have been neat!

DesotoRandy,

That would have been me that you passed and beeped your horn at me which about scared me. I did see the red Plymouth shirt but you had pulled up past me by the time I turned around and saw it. I was on my way home from the car show in Macungie, PA. I had already been on the road for two hours in the heat plus being at the show all day in the heat so I was about half spaced out and was just concentrating on the final 20 minute drive home.

If your counting cars spotted at car shows here is this beauty.

Here is a nice 59 Fury right here in Polk County Fl.

Poor old 55 Plymouth with powerflite they wanted $1500.

This poor 56, not the body but what is under the hood is shameful. I don't know what the part I saw on the trunk means by limited edition.

Here is this beautiful Chrysler.

Have we been forced to only post pix of cars we see at car shows ? No one sees barn finds and
field cars anymore ?

What is under the hood of that 56 Plymmie? The photograph you posted gives no hint.

Sorry car shows is the only time I get to see anything except years ago I saw a black 58 Dodge in Lakeland Fl sitting in someones front yard but I didn't have a camera at the time so I don't have any pictures but it look real nice although I don't know how it looked underneath.

I didn't take much pics after I saw the steering wheel, it started with Ch but it wasn't Chrysler and it had newer seats too.

Check out the steering wheel.
