Two weeks ago I placed an online order for a transmission shift cable with Imperial Services in Michigan. I added a note that I would like them to get back to me regarding how quickly this could be shipped as the car is tying up a lift at a shop. They were paid immediately with PayPal.

So far nothing. No response regarding shipping, no back order notice. I have called them twice so far. First call was early morning and the phone message said they were busy and would call back next business day. If they can call the next day, why not the same day? They never called. Second call did not include that message. Still no response. Can't get a live person on the phone.

Back a few months ago I called them with a simple question and it took them like 8 or 9 days to call me back - by then I found the part elsewhere!

Is this any way to run a business? Are they being arrogant because they have unique parts? They can't be THAT busy with Mopar items, can they?

What have others experienced lately?

I just need my $195 shift cable and need it now! After two weeks and no response, I think I'm justified in my patience running very thin.

I ordered a speedo cable and motor mounts to replace ones I got
from him that went bad. Took forever and didn't ever get correct
speedo cable. Found a local guy who had all the correct pieces and
made cable for 20.00. He charge me over 100.00 and it never right
and didn.t work. Been going on over six months and still don't have
my mounts. I don't know how many times I was told next week.

HI Wayne,

it took me months to get my parts. I was getting really worried. they said they were moving shop and mis placed them. doesn't explain your issue, sorry
I run a small sign shop, if our attiutude or response time was like theres we wouldn't have a business. Just keep ringing and emailing thats all you can do.
but be prepared, you might have to take the car home to free up the lift until you get them. sorry

I ordered new engine mounts for my '60 DeSoto last year. They said it would take 2 weeks.
Many e-mails and about 6 monts later I got the parts. They did not bother to answer the last few mails at all.

Nice parts but communication sucks. I would not have minded the wait if they would have said that in the start.

Steve posted a note on another website ( 1962-1965 Mopar) Mail list just This week. I think the mail list is viewable on our homepage.
IIRC He has been trying to settle a divorce involving having to rennovate a house. They have moved their operation. He has been working on a deal to distribute most of his products through other Dealers. He will continue with his manufacturing and tranny conversions. I think he said there will be more e-bay sales-letting buyers determine prices. He said they have gotten behind on their orders with everything that has been going on and apologized for the delays. This is not Gosple, just what I recall
He is a member of the mail list and in the two years I have "known" him- I would say he is one pf the good-guys.............................MO

You think I and others have had problems? I received a private email from a guy in Sweden who called Imp'l Services FORTY TO FIFTY times from Sweden before he got his order.

And I'm sure there are many more stories out there.

If Mr. Charette really believes made the post he placed at the '62-65 forum answers customer problems adequately, he should be posting it in other forums like this one and the Imperial online group for starters.

As far as I'm concerned it doesn't answer anything for me. He has my $210 (part plus shipping) and I do NOT have a cable and how difficult would it have been for him to send out this "form letter" to everyone as they placed an order?

If my case, or any of yours, hits 30 days without product or correspondence, that is MAIL FRAUD.

Yes, a certain supplier of lenses in Australia certainly qualifies in this same genre.

Wayne -

If you paid by credit card, find the part elsewhere and do a chargeback. Not worth the aggravation.

I honestly don't really care what his sob story is. If he has your money then he either sends you the part or a refund. That's the way a successful business operates.

After sending another email yesterday to Steve Charette, owner of IS, I received a reply from him stating my shift cable was shipped yesterday, Monday. Zero response to any of my comments to him.

Let me try to be fair here.
My problem with Imperial Services was that starting with my initial order to them I was communicating to them that I needed the cable and NEEDED RESPONSE from them as to when I would get it. For the first two and a half weeks all the communications were one way; from me to them, with no response whatsoever and THAT is their failure and the gripe I have.
If I could have heard anything from them in about the first week stating that they would be able to ship my cable after about two weeks from the date I placed the order, I'd have no problem and would lived with that.
It was the fact they had my $210 via PayPal from day one, but without response I couldn't even tell if Impl Services was still in business, or if I would ever receive product, compounded by tying up a bay at the shop that has my car, that was SO VERY FRUSTRATING.
We live in the "communications age" today and a company that takes two and a half weeks to respond to multiple urgent correspondence from a customer looks like a dinosaur. Dinosaurs, we note, are quite extinct.

I will post again when I have the shift cable in hand. IS projected it will arrive this Thursday.

It seems like in just the past few years ,since cell phones and e-mail, we are in an age where people do not mind if they do not return calls, messages, and e-mails. Happens ALL the time and is accepted by most folks. Well, I tell you what--I don't like it and consider it un- courtious. I don't wait very long for a call back till I am calling them again. Usually after several try's I get through....................................MO

I was not about to take the old one out of the car until the new one arrived. All I can say is the part that came out of the box is very pretty and new. I'll attack the replacement and adjustment and report when complete and functioning, or not.

Gentlemen,
I have been waiting over three years for a "Pushbutton modification package" torqueflite convesion (see below). I sent in my shifter, paid $500 by credit card, and have been calling off an on over the years ( it was $500 three years ago with a special right angle conversion for the cable, which I gave up on and told him just to ship the normal version ). Before April 2011 I was always told 2 weeks for completion whenever I talked with Steve, with an apology for the delay. Since April there is no longer a human to speak to. It just goes to voice mail saying they will call you back. I have not heard from Imperial Services or Steve Charette since April 2011.
Yes, Steve seems nice to talk too, but I will have to say the "Services" at Imperial Services are very bad. I certainly would file a complaint for this issue. I have considered small claims court, even though I am on the other side of the country. I am just waiting for the next time my business sends me to Michigan to file ( about once a year ).

Pushbutton modification package  $595 plus shipping - Save $200 if we receive your pushbutton unit for conversion between Nov. 1st and March 1st!!  (*see text above for important information on pushbutton kits)

Last I heard it was all going to be wholesale out of Imperial Services. Retailers such as Atlas Parts and Collectors Auto Parts and others would be selling the Impl Services items. NO direct retail sales from Impl.

Their web site states:

"We have finally ceased retail sales, and are focused on stocking our new Warehouse Distributors, as well as new product development. Factory Direct web ordering is still available but will be taken down shortly.
We thank you for the years of your support and we look forward to serving you in the future, through our new network of fully stocked Warehouse Distributors and Stocking Dealers."

Update via email:

"We're not going anywhere, just trying to get focused on new products. Everything is still made in our shop about an hour north of Detroit. Having stocking distributors will mean quicker parts availability and hopefully decreased shipping costs.

Steve may appear to be a great guy, but he is unethical. I sent him a cable for repair in July 2012 and he emailed me acknowledging receipt and said, "I have your cable on the cable bench and will dig into it first thing Monday. Will let you know if I have questions." After a month went by, I contacted him to determine the status of the repair. He failed to reply to three contact attempts. When I hadn't heard from him for two months I became concerned that Steve may have had a health issue or the businesses might have gone under, so I contacted the local Chamber of Commerce. Since Imerial is not a member, they couldn't help. Then I contacted the Better Business Burea and filed a complaint. Steve did not respond to the BBB. After the file was closed, I tried one last time to contacted him about the repair. He did reply this time. The told me, "Sorry, been tied up dealing with some stuff with the Better Business Bureau. I'll get your cable to your shortly." I believe this was his lame attempt at sarcasm. Needless to say, after 2 months he still had not sent the cable, so I contacted him and asked him to just return the unrepaired cable. After a month he has failed to do so. It is little surprise that Imperial is closing down the retail operation since Steve obviously knows little about customer service. But it's been my experience that you will have people like him who care little about the customer. My only regret is that I did not find this forum before conducting business with Imperial.

How does one find out which retailers are selling IMP-Services' products?

It would be nice to be able to believe a retailer, that he actually has an item in stock, and that it will be shipped to you
in the immediate future.

Somehow Schumacker is connected to Imperial Services. I would go to them for information.

I wonder who now provide the services (like modifying shift componets)since Imperial no longer does it..........................MO
