Lots of photos of this beast at the auction page:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1959-Coronet-Mephian-Military-Ambula...

Check out the mild 361 and the 8-leaf rear springs!

There is another white one--a 4-door-- listed also, but without any good pics, here:

Wonder if the seller is hoping the model will help sell the ambulance?

Strange to see several of these pop up at once.

Something like this would be great to haul band equipment around and travel to gigs, especially if the band was retro/rockabilly. Lots of room in that car.

And yeah, including the model in the pics is a little amusing.

I just noticed that this vehicle is a THREE-door wagon (rear door on passenger side only)! Looks like it has a 361 in it???

This one has a BB 361. We can't really hold this car to the normal "rules" of Dodge-built passenger cars.

For some reason the guy took down the photos of the funky data plates (see the top of this thread) and the "L-360" stamping by the dizzy.

The Vin says..... M312128649
M31 = 1959 Dodge coronet 8 cylinder
Assembly plant - Hamtramck (Detroit)
128649 being the sequence number, all Dodges started at 100001 from the start. So this is car number 28648
Paint code of BB1 is Blue Diamond paint

I didnt see the engine pics so with the front mounted dist the engine would be a 361. Power brakes but no powers steering pump......
hmmmm must have been removed.

This car has EIGHT leaf springs--most I've ever seen are 7 leafs, and the rear brake drums are at least
2/1/2" wide---they look more like 3" drums, but that could be an illusion.

I'll bet that its T/bars are not stock items, either.

It would sure be nice is a member could buy this guy, as all three of its option codes are unknown to me,
or, maybe the seller could be induced to check behind the glove box for a possible Broadcast sheet being
still there.

I'm also curious about its axle gearing.

TRM code 999...special order; I guess so!

I wonder if this guy is bullet-proof? 5000 lbs, with the capability of carrying an additional 1000 lbs in it.

It started out from the assembly line being a 2dr Coronet sedan.

Most Dodge and Plymouth conversions did start out that way. You get the "long" doors of a 2dr, the pillars of a sedan, and the non-wagon quarter panels.

Just came accross this post and had to see if I could learn any more.. Ive been getting into restoring and am looking for a VERY DIFFERENT then normal project and I found this add on e-bay for a '59 Coronet ambulance and really don't know what to think.. It has tons of character, but to all you collectors, restorers, or just hobbiest have you seen any of these around? What are they worth restored? Obviously has alot of options, restore, drag car, etc, but what would be recommend for those of you who know the Coronet well?
Thanks in advance, Rich
