So this is the auction that shows you not the car you get, but a very similar car? That is a beauty, or at least I think it might be. This car too has the red odometer numbers. Is that standard issue on '57 Adventurers? My '58 Firedome has white numbers, these red ones look strange.

This description:

Estimate

$125,000 - $150,000

Chassis no. 3339216

Extremely desirable among collectors, this example benefits from long term ownership, and has been recently serviced for parade use. Having had only one owner from 1959 to present it remains an excellent example of a quality original car. One of the rarest, most desirable, and sought after Mopar’s this is a must have for any collection.

Leaves all sorts of questions - is "original car" unrestored?  Original interior?  Original paint?  What does "serviced for parade use" even mean?  I usually think parade use means the car goes about 10 mph and the top doesn't exist anymore!

This car is supposedly at a restoration shop right now, and they are "sweating" getting it ready in time for the auction. After seeing the Milt Robson results, the owner hopes to get big $$$.

I'd say in my observations, and I'm open to the opinions of others (maybe Doc DeSoto?), about 10% of the '57 DeSotos had red odometer letters and the majority had the white letters. I haven't figured out yet if it was based on date of manufacture, if the reds were replacement units, or what. It's NOT becasue it's an Adventurer.

Yes, this auction has me really interested, and there has been NO REPLY from the auction company to explain how they can post the pictures of a different car and different mileage but expect you to bid on the car actually being sold. More FRAUD, in my book.

When they (RM) introduced this car they said it just came from a 2 year restoration. So which was it, a freshening from parade use, or full resto?

Guy who restored it is kind of torqued at me at the moment. I asked him (in a nice way, I thought) why he'd go through a 2-year restoration and not do things "right" on that kind of car. Original paint color was completely different than car is now, so I'd say it was all painted, despite ad saying "touchup". Quirky things in the engine compartment, like the spark plug covers. Only reason I'm pointing this out is that I had sent the restorer great pictures of what a "correct" car should look like, so any deviation from that was either intentional, money-savings, or lack of care. It would be different if it was done for his personal taste, but restoring it specifically for a sale, to me, means it should have been more correct. Again, still a gorgeous car, and I wish it were mine (so no need to bark at me about criticizing things!). The AUCTION COMPANY, however, will never earn my forgiveness. Advertising the car the whole time, but posting pictures of a different car, and not disclosing that, was just plain fraud. I'll never recommend anyone buy a vehicle from folks like that.

I'll let you all be the judge on the "freshening up" versus full restoration, and the lack of correctness on the paint. Here are pics of the car and the engine compartment before restoration and after.
