Hi All,

It's been a while, but finally, there's another road trip for me. The last one was in 2009
Leaving tomorrow for Los Angeles, and from there I will be heading Seattle again.
I'll hike & camp a few days down in Grand Canyon and for the rest it's still wide open.
Depending on cars I might find, which all have to be driven to Seattle.
Looking for salvage yards and interesting events, any tips are welcome!
And I will be posting photos here, again.
Have to go now, still have to do most of my packing. Which reminds me: I'm taking with me that Super D500 intake.

I'm with Neil now.

The weather is good, we just drove up and down the scenic 395 and we're going for a hike tomorrow.

I've seen and photographed some pretty cars, but I can't upload them, yet.
I'll be hiking the Grand Canyon, coming week.

Location: bishop, ca		He thought that the pedal was sticking, because he had to put his foot further into 'it', to accelerate from
a stop, due to the 2.76:1 gear ratio.

Seems he's used to his 57 twin-carb'ed/3.36:1 Royal's (Mr. Greene) low-end get away.

His wooden shoes didn't help much, either.

Nice western-sky Halloween sunset, huh?

Horrie sure drives well, very powerful, but also very relaxed because of the longer drive ration Neil has put in.

Aha, thats why jim has twin carbs, it not need much pedal movement to accelerate,,

ok, I need a higher rear end gear ratio in my car, but I want it to go fast from standstill to, Now I have 3,31, maybe 2,94 is what I need, or higher wooden shoes?

Location: bishop, ca		Yup; H's a low altitude flyer, right now.

Right now, Jim's climbing his way back UP from down on the North rim of the Grand canyon....he wanted to
go visit the Colorado River, I guess.

Then, he's on to SoCal to pick up (hopefully) a rebuilt T/flite, and then he comes back here to get his stash
that he left here, on his way on up to Washington state.

Bengt, I'll go find your own thread, and give you some tips on high-gearing your ride.

I've found the fastest way to get down into the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River...

Okay, not really Forward Look related...

Probably today I will be going to Ojai, CA to check on a TorqueFlite. I will also be checking one out in Kennewick, WA and on the way to there I might make a stop in Williams, CA to finally visit  Big M!
Later I'll be going to Kelowna, BC (Canada) and I'll end up in Puyallup, WA.

What's really nice about those images is that they were taken with a 'short' telephoto lens, so that the car's true
dimensions and proportions can be seen.

Many photos of our cars are taken with relatively wide angle lenses, so that their features are distorted.

Jim also looks to be somewhat large, in the photos, because H.'s power seat is fully raised---to provide for "chair height"
(-not, but that's the best that the low-designed 57 seats could provide) seating.

A power seat should have been a standard feature in the 57+ Mopes.

Left Bishop, CA yesterday and after stopping in Kennewick, WA made it to Kelowna, BC.
Dallas - who is in Kennewick, WA - is a real nice guy. I bought his TorqueFlite and he helped me getting it in the trunk of my car.

Passing the USA-Canadian border was an adventure. They strip searched my car and me, and after that had a sniffer dog going over everything. Then I was allowed to repack all my lugage, load it back into my car, and continue my road trip. That was a 2.5 hour delay.

Today, I am going to visit Ralph, a car restorer who works on Maxim's 1957 Dodge, and see how the build is going.

After that, I'll be on my way to Puyallup, WA.

Sadly, no photos, because I apparently left my USB-cable at Neil's office... Gonna buy me a new one today.

On my way to Maxim in Canada to drop of the Super D500 intake, I got held up at the border for 2.5 hours.
There was also a dog, sniffin'me and my car several times.
I thought it would be the other way around, that US customs would strip search me when coming back from Canada ...

Oh, well, all's for a Forward Look fellow member!

Kind of snowy to get there, in Kelowna, BC and because of my delay at the Canadian border I couldn't make it there on time. So I stayed overnight in a nearby motel.

Next morning, I met Ralph Simpson, an older gentleman and a very skilled restorer. He is working on several of Maxim's cars.
He told me he started when he was eleven years of age, in his fathers body shop. His father thought him how, but he was always on his own. By age of 14 he was driving his self restored '32 you-know-what.

The Super D500 intake is for the blue 57 convertible you see in the photo, which was already converted to a D500.

Location: bishop, ca		I just accidentally erased a semi-massive posting, about my 90 mile road test/shake-down drive, today.

I am NOT happy about wasting all that time and 'pecking' out a lost-posting.

SCROOM: Cliff Notes (amended-) version: got a relatively poor result, from driving at 4K'- 8k' elev. at real
highway speeds (65-70+) and recorded a so-so (full-tank-to-full tank; the only way to do it)....13.04 MPG.

Next week (maybe with Jim Hoek along)...will take a 120 mile FLAT road trip, at speed, and see how
the real world MPG calculates thereon.

Have pretty much dialed in H.'s MPH/MPG recordings, with that Gizmo that screws into the trannie (to accommodate his
installed 2.76 rear end ratio) and with the Euro-rated Diamondback radials he's wearing.

Would like to see something like 14.5 MPG at 65+ MPH...we'll see, though.

At least, the operational smoothness, and noise reduction, are evident with the 2.76 rear gear installation.

This has been a crummy re-cap of an otherwise titillating thread posting (with no photos taken of the event).
