one of the few items still missing on my 57 Flite is an original JACK

If anyone can help please let me know
or perhaps if one of the vendors reads this who have one could they please PM me?

I can understand why you would want to get an original jack for an original car; but your car is not original so why would you want one? They are quite useless because they will destroy a show car if you actually used it. For roadside emergencies, it would be better to get a small jack out of an 80's car and hide it under the spare tire.

He needs it because it supposed to be there

I am the same, at some stage, I need to see if I can get a jack for my 2 cars, will most likely never use them, but they need to be there anyway

Bit like the ashtray, I will never use it (and I do smoke)

We'll put Mick
And I do take your point 'POWERFLITE' but....
In car shows as you know points are allotted for various items
Fire extinguishers
Tool kit
Wheel brace, jack, etc
So it is to be a 'prop'
OK then .... Who's got a spare .. JACK that is??????

Bob, could you tell me what was involved to make your custom air cleaners? How did you do it? I like that you have modified them to flow more air than stock.

That car of Bobs is one of the nicest looking ones I've ever seen, absolutely love it !!

Bob,

Are the jacks for the Desotos any different to the Ply/Dodge/Chrysler ones.

If so, they do pop up on evilbay from time to time in various conditions if that helps you.

I got my jack for my 59 Dodge from evilbay.

Bob did me a great favour , and by chance when he was here he mentioned the jack , so I gave him the jack out of my other Desoto , so he is ok for one now .

Annoyingly my spare Desoto had this big triangular jack monstrosity in the trunk , so I threw it out . Turns out it was a rare accessory jack . I was most annoyed to find this out !

Incredibly nice. Can I ask what the bulge in the carpet is, below what appears to be the dimmer switch?

Ian if you go back to page five you will see the reason. I think Bob wanted the switch inside the car instead of having it hanging off the undercarriage and routing wiring back in.
I know he has the aircleaner build photo's somewhere in the history as well. Just page back until you find it.

there are some more photos of the FOOT REST on page 5 of this blog.

foot rests are a great driving tool! they have a stabilizing effect when hard braking is necessary and act as a subconscious brain orientation device on automatics to locate the brake pedal rather than the accelerator if the right foot was on the floor rather than the pedal

Was that footrest/dimmer holder a factory deal on those RHD cars?

Fair question Jim, but to the best of my knowledge there were NO right hand drive Desoto cars for Australia in 1957 or '58.
however there were some pretty terrible L to R conversions (as it was illegal then to drive a LHD car on Australian roads. One I remember incorporated two bike chains and pedal gears running between the old steering shaft and the RHD column and steering wheel under the dash!.... must have been a pig to drive.

So- no the foot rest and dimmer switch combo was my modification as was the RHD
thanks Bob

Yes thanks again James, it was great to meet you and check out your Chrysler fleet. The jack is now on the path to restoration along the lines you suggested.

another new friend thanks to the Family of Fins

BTW James does some great seat belt rebuilds with correct web&stitch but mainly for Aussie Fords (I think)

Finally something to crow about
The cruise (warm) laps were a blast at the All American Day last weekend!

The old girl picked up her skirt and hauled arse down the Lakeside straight and wasn't too shabby under brakes or round the bends. The thunderous sound of a 392 Hemi with its 2 X 4BBL carbs fully open, wailing its way towards 7000 RPM as it approached the ‘chase’ was something to behold!

Mark, it was exhilarating, I was having so much fun I didn't think about video but I have put the word out in case someone captured the red flash.
I did glance down at the dash and at the end of the straight the speedo was off the dial. Based on other cars I have driven there it was probably 150 to 160 KPH before I buttoned off for the left hand sweeper.
The opportunity will come up again but next time we will be better prepared. I honestly didn't think it would be as impressive as it was and to win the show and Shine was the icing on the cake!

If you would like to improve your handling around the curves, try out a set of the hot heads aluminum heads. That large weight reduction high up on the motor makes a nice difference. It will also improve your power output because of the better designed ports. If you ask him, he may make you a set without the Hot Heads logo on them.

I love it when someone properly thrashes a desoto! That must have been a hell of a show, and probably shocked more than a few people with her turn of speed.

Hi all I had some trouble recovering this thread but thanks to coupeman I see that it is still intact
My wife and I take the red Flyte out quite often on a Sunday and cruise (terrorise the locals) on the Wynnum Esplanade before we stop for breakfast along the waterfront. The car always attracts quite a few admiring glances and phone photographers!
As Coupeman will attest the fleet has grown since my last post and I have also been doing a lot more circuit racing with my 911 turbo S and my BMW M3 R around arguably one of the best tracks in the world - Bathurst ( no place for the red aircraft carrier)!
Yesterday I added to the fleet (a birthday present to myself) a 2nd hand Mercedes Benz C63 Black Series (a beast with 557HP) (I figure I'm old enough to finally have a Merc having turned 70 last month) which I am going to campaign at Targa Tasmania another great event in my calendar . Bob
