Elite Veteran Posts: 907 Location: Magra, Sweden | My 2 cents on the additional lights above headlights are turn signals with better visibility from side as the original are countersunk

Extreme Veteran Posts: 395 Location: Netherlands | Correct on all the different laws in Europe, in Switzerland they make you add a parking light on motorcycles, even on a '40's Harley and in France bikes have to have their lights on even in the daytime. I also suspect the original turn signals were too close together and they also had to be visible from the sides.... We really need a French person to clear this one up...Phil? Member Posts: 11 | That car is in France, and I also believe it's because of the regulations that the indicators were fitted. I don't know which is original, the dual rear antennas on the one fitted on the driver fender. I also have no idea if that's its original color or not but it sure makes a nice contrast with the interior. Maybe one of the french members could enlighten the history of this car.

Elite Veteran Posts: 610 Location: Wilmington, Delaware, USA | Thomas, That grey color is an original color choice as it was called Charcoal Poly. Check out the data plate under "PNT" to see if the letter "L" is listed. Chris (1958 Dodge Colors.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1958 Dodge Colors.jpg (196KB - 383 downloads)

Member Posts: 11 | Hullinger, Can we then assume that the Kingsway colors were Dodge and not Plymouth? It's not mine so I won't have access to the data plate but...this car is well known in France and I'm sure Phil or Chrome58 would know more about it. As far as I know it has a 4bbl 318. I've always been lurking into FL cars but I don't own one, I missed one I really liked a few years ago and I haven't found one again yet. I've found a pic of the interior on the web, could be the same Phil who is on here who took it. No padded dash but note the km/h speedo.

Veteran Posts: 155 Location: Hellertown, PA | Yes this car is in France close to the Meditereanean sea, I know the owner.... as I am French too even if I live in PA.. France has always been very complicated and still has some very hard regulation on headlight and taillights.... for example rear turn signal must be orange and different from the stop lights...also very difficult on noise regulation... for example they don't tolerate the exhaust noise on a new Mustang GT for 2db... so you have to install a less noisy exhaust just to register your car in FRANCE...

Elite Veteran Posts: 915 Location: Pau, S-W France | I know this car since 20 years !!! It's a Kingsway Custom sold new in France. The car has been restored last year because the precedent owner wasn't very careful with it (i remember that he did "burns out" ..) ! The color is the original color and also the small "lights", i always see them on this car . I've a pic of another french '58 Kingsway with the same lights. The car has a 318 engine and Torqueflite. Her's a pic taken in 1993 http://www.ch300imp.com/images/58kgw2.jpg Edited by Phil_the_frenchie 2012-01-07 5:20 PM (P1130237 [1024x768].JPG) (P1130244 [1024x768].JPG) (P1130277 [1024x768].JPG) Attachments ---------------- P1130237 [1024x768].JPG (159KB - 569 downloads) P1130244 [1024x768].JPG (159KB - 347 downloads) P1130277 [1024x768].JPG (137KB - 147 downloads)

I beg to differ, Philippe ... I got in touch with the owner at some point, and I remember he told me that the car had been sold new in Morocco to a frenchman living there. He then took it with him when he got back in France a few years later (that would have been in the early '60s). Edited by Chrome58 2012-01-08 4:35 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 915 Location: Pau, S-W France | You're right Vincent, i think that the history was related in an issue of "Nitro" (around 1991). The car was bought at this time for 25 000 F (5000 $) . The American-built pre-1960 Kingsways and Diplomats were done in Plymouth colours as they were built at the Plymouth plant on Lynch Road. Even used Plymouth serial numbers.

Sète is a town in south France. Elite Veteran Posts: 915 Location: Pau, S-W France | d500neil - 2012-01-09 9:54 PM Phil, your nom de FWDLK should be "Phil the Cowboy".... Right !!! I just found the old french magazine Nitro (issue # 122 , july 1991, we were young then ...), sorry, text in french and the guy in the pics is the owner, Camille, who sold the car to Phil de Sète. He kept the car 20 years but the last years were not the best ...) Sorry the text is in french, but i can say that: - the car was sold to Camille for 8000 F in 1988: it's around 1600 $ ... - the car had at this time 34 000 original km (54 000 miles) According to the article, 192 2 dr H/T Kingsway were built in 1958 (60 pre-built, 83 CKD and 46 built as this one). Sorry for Images-Slow upload but i can't send them in small size if you want to read ...

Expert Posts: 1493 Location: Jamaica Plain, MA | I love this car. I love the color. I love the '58 Dodge front end. I was thinking of painting my Firesweep graphite, because it needs paint and is already not the original color. This seals the deal on my paint choice. And $1,600 in France in 1988. You couldn't get a nice FL couple here for that at the time.
