Elite Veteran Posts: 1120 Location: Brisbane, Australia | Doc DeS has pointed out that the inner fenders were never originally body colour. As you can see I have found many different colours but would like to know if any of these is close to the original colours on the 57 Fireflite 2DRs? Bob In ignorant bliss I have painted mine the body colour!! Veteran Posts: 179 Location: Western New York | My understanding of the correct inner fender color is there are two answers. 1. Cars built in Detroit have the grey inner fenders. This would cover the vast majority of '57 Desoto that were built. 2. Cars built in LA would have black inner fenders.

Location: Parts Unknown | As pointed out elsewhere, Detroit cars got a medium-light grey color that seems fairly glossy, although nothing like buffed body paint. L.A. built cars got Parts & Accessories Black, a low-gloss black like you see used on generators, air cleaners, and other parts. Hope that helps.

Location: Parts Unknown | Since this discussion came up a couple years ago between a bunch of us DeSotophiles, it occurred to me that all my parts pile, including the presumably original nose off my Fireflite, are P&A Black. One nose clip is off my 57 NY'er, but that car was LA-built. Being from the NW, it is not unusual for many of those cars found in my area to be LA- built cars. Yet I cannot recall a single 58 DeSoto with the grey inner fenders, leading me to question what years got the grey. A lot changed across the corporate board in terms of generic parts painting for 1958, with the introduction of Argent as a "base" color for different background pieces like wheels, valances, bezels, etc. I know for a fact that radiator supports and inner fenders were not painted Argent, but I am left wanting to confirm that for 1958, they were indeed P&A Black across the board (or not).

Veteran Posts: 179 Location: Western New York | My '58 Fireflite was built in Detroit and has the grey inner fenders. The car has a build date of 6/25/58. This might be the last year for the grey inner fenders. Elite Veteran Posts: 1141 Location: Blackpool, United Kingdom. | On those last inner fender pictures they dont appear to have the extra plates on which are painted semi gloss black? was it just the extra wheelbase cars that got those?
