Wish I had not seen this, now I need to find a boat project to go behind my Fireflite project. I am never going to get started on my Chevelle project.

This boat doesn't have any fins, but it's clearly been made using parts from a 1957 Imperial.

It's too bad they had to put a reinforcement bar down the center of that gorgeous windshield

From the Imerial Club web site:

Quote:
"Here is the story about how the Boat came into being.

In 1957, a wealthy family on Lake Tahoe (aren't they all?) bought a new Imperial Convertible for their son, who was graduating from High School, and of course needed a reliable car to drive to college.

As 18 years olds were the same 50 years ago as they are today, he promptly took it out and ran it into a tree.

The family had the car towed to a repair shop, where it was pronounced unrepairable. Sooo, since they were thinking about having a new boat built for them at that time, they decided that the remains of the Imperial could be used in part to build the boat. So what you see here is a 1957 Imperial Convertible BOAT! Power is still provided by the 392 Hemi (I saw it but could not get a picture - it's in the engine hatch in the "trunk"), and has as much of the interior and dash as could be saved.

It is rumored to be the fastest boat on the lake!

The interior is the original, the top still works (and has to be put down to enter the boat, as the doors don't open any more), the power windows still work, as do all the other standard accessories for a 1957 Imperial Convertible. This was a real knockout, and I hope to see it on the lake next time we get up there." End Quote

I sure wouldnt mind going for a ride with her in her 1956 Sea-Lark

This boat was designed by Brooks Stevens. Only 3 were built and one is known to exist.

The roofline reminds me a little of the 57-59 Chrylser & DeSoto coupe roofline.

Ive been looking for a Cutter Jet DeVille to pull behind my 59 Dodge... I've missed 2 of them so far by only a day. Sooner or later I'll have one.

Nice boat,I saw a blue Cutter Jet being towed behind a new truck a couple weeks ago on the freeway.
The 1959 Glass Slipper would look cool with your Dodge too since it has similar browed headlights, good luck finding one though.

It seems like several of the boat manufacturers tried to make their fins harmonize with the cars that would be towing them.I've seen models that have fins similar to 57 -59 Chevys and even the 57-58 Plymouths.

Sorry! I know what you mean,It drives me crazy, there are simply too many things from the 50's and 60's that I love and not enough money! mine is the Ancarrow Patrician (the boat in the first photo) although I love them all....sigh...I'm going to have to perfect a way to counterfeit money or find a genie (the Barbara Eden kind)

Man,that was THE time to be alive! We had the most beautiful girls,cars,boats,homes,music..and did I mention girls?
Its been all downhill since then.

I can get with the Aqualifer. But the rest ... not so much. They remind me too much of
those cheesy VW / "sports car" conversions.

Then again, I already have too many hobbies.

Love the red and white Carl, can you email me some photos of the interior and is the upholstry original?
Anyone else with some photos of original interiors of red and white FLs(in colour) esp 57 Fireflite would be most appreciated as I am still undecided on the interior colour scheme for my project.
thanks

Check out the RedFish Boats in the link below and in Jim Benjaminson Plymouth 1946-1959 book has a black & white picture of a 58 Fury with a boat done up just like it.

I just bought mine. A 1958 Reinell Jet-About. She will be blue and white like my 1956 Windsor. I would like to find a period motor in the future.

These boats are the coolest!

Sigh...I'll just add one onto my "Wish List", along with my Firemite.

Thanks for the great photos and links, guys!

I was lucky enough to recently snag a nice original 1959 Glastron FireFlite, complete with its original 50hp Kiekhaefer Merc. Plan is to tow it behind the 57 DeSoto. Very cool little boat.

Floyd, I do, but don't know how to resize them. If you or anyone else out there can, I will email them. The Glastron a cool boat for sure, but all I know is I HAVE to find one of those BeeLine Sapphires. Wow!

The Beeline Sapphire is my favorite too! Sadly according to what I've read only 14 are known to exist so finding one and affording one wouldnt be easy.

Looks more like a Red Fish boat from some the pictures in the link I posted not a Glastron.

One of the pics from that link.

You're right,it definitely has a lot the styling cues of the red fish sea shark, but the fins aren't as tall and don't have the same side sculpting.

Since Glastron is still in bussiness I would assume they were worried about being sued so they altered the design.

We all need to save these finned works of art. The future holds no real chance of going back to this design.

This one was a wedding present from a good friend, haven't had time to do anything with it, though.

I also have another setting on a trailer that I will sell if anyone is interested.

Funny that Red Fish boats, above, would select the exact same names for their red and white boat colors as were used by Dodge.

They were clearly following the auto industry.there is also a "swept wing" styled boat, and Glastron named a model "FireFlite"! I would have thought Chrysler would have that name trademarked.

That South Seas Samoan has some wild fins! You got any pics of it fron the back? Front has a sort of poncho look to it.

edit: I did a jaxed/craigslist search and South Seas isn't on the list. Would it have been called something else?

I'm not going to pretend to know anything about boat design but I'll bet that double keel may have made dual outboards a necessity. But also very stable. The shot with passengers makes it look like a pretty large boat. Those fins being towed behind a 60-61 DeSoto or Chrysler would be an awesome sight!

Another ad featuring the 1956 Cadillac Sea Lark designed by Brooks Stevens. Supposedly only five were know to have been built.

Too bad Flo wasnt wearing a vintage 1960's swimsuit to go with her boat!

Stephanie Courtney has sure done well with her gig as Flo for Progressive.

The South Seas Samoan is very hard to find and theres little info on them online. It does have a 59 Pontiac look to front end.
I have a rear shot of the yellow boat that shows the fins, they are really wild.I will post it soon.
