Hi all,

Thought I'd throw up some photos of some original paperwork I found yesterday in my '59 Dodge.

So.....................

No 653

The 653rd car off whatever production line it was from ??? Yes/No ????????????

No idea what Body 1 means ( sedan ?? )

"P.S." I guess means power steering ??? ( if so, my car now has manual steering ? )

" B.U " Backup light ?? ( if so, it no longer works )

"M.L " No idea at all ????????????

..........

.....

.

The pic of the Broadcast sheet came with the car as is, but I guess it was probably found when the cardboard insert in the glove compartment fell out on to the floor at some stage in it's life.

The remnants of the glove compartment insert is in a box in the trunk

Can anyone shed any decoding info at all please ?

I have a heap of other paperwork , mainly maintenance/service invoices and other documents for the car dating back to about 1986 or so.

.............

And here is where I found the sheet in the top 2 pics, under the rear seat base when I lifted it up looking for a wad of $100 bills.

It was scrunched up and seemingly just thrown in under there.

I've used a stunt double scrunched up newspaper page to illustrate where I found it instead of using the original sheet of paper, you can see it on the floor and is positioned exactly where I found the original.

DISCLAIMER:-

Please DO NOT attempt to imitate this at home.

To do so my be risking your life.

This is a stunt double scrunched up piece of newspaper.

It is a professionally trained piece of scrunched up newspaper and was photographed under safely supervised conditions using a professionally hired and insured scrunched up newspaper actor.

I did try and photograph the body tag under the hood on the passenger side but was unable to get the camera in close enough for a shot that would enable the numbers to be read.

So I'll just type 'em out here...................

It reads exactly as follows from the top of the tag down:-

Serial Number

M31216517

233333333334444444444655556

901234567890123456789012890

.............. . . 9 . 1

Schedule .................... Body ........ Pnt ......... Trm

MO 706 52 046 ........... 313 ....... CC1 ......... 135

Anyone like to have a go and tell me what all that gobblygook above means ??

Also, take no notice of the dots between the type, I had to put 'em in to get it to line up, there's no dots on the tag.

If anyone is interested , I'll throw up the engine number tomorrow as well but I do remember it starts with DMP8 which I remember someone saying that it means it's a 326 Dodge A Poly.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,

Terry

The Broadcast Sheet was definitely taped to the back of the glove box, as it had told the dashboard assemblers &
painters how to build and paint the thing, from 'scratch'.

The "Blue Coronet" told the workers that they should construct a blue dashboard in the style of a Coronet.

If there had been any other options/goodies to include in its construction--like, a padded dash or a rear-window lift, or
a rear defroster control, etc, those items would have been hand written, under the 'Special Instructions'.

As far as options go, you've got Accessory Group 1: " Heater Group"; heater/defroster, back-up lights, left O.S.
mirror, and Day/Nite mirror.

The trannie is the PowerFlite 2-speed, which also is confirmed on your check-off sheet ("2")...

That form also confirms that your car did not have the right-side rear view mirror, or power brakes, but it does have power steering; the Broadcast Sheet (also) confirms the lack of those options.

Your car IS coded for having Carpeting...that one option-coding may be the most important one, on the B.-Sheet, beacuse
your car, otherwise, would have had rubber floor coverings.

The interior motif is the 'standard' Coronet (not a "Custom Coronet") in blue colors, to complement the all "Star Sapphire Iridescent (metalllic-) exterior paint.

It had the plain wheel covers, the standard Coronet/PowerFlite axle ratio (3.31:1) and the tires were 7.50x14" Rayon blackwall, but, a 5th (spare-) tire/wheel was included with the car.

it's got a padded front seat and the chrome end-of-fin trim.

It was scheduled to have been built rather late in the year: 7/6/59.

TERRY: where were your car's photos originally posted???

WOW....... thanks for all that Neil... that's great info.

So the build number 653, would that mean it was the 653rd car for the month off it's particular production line ?? ( whichever one it was ?? )

It no longer has it's original power steering then, someones fitted manual steering to it, but thanks to John at Big M, it'll have power steering again sometime soon.

Still has it's heater and still works fine so I'm thankfull for that.

Back up lights are long gone so I guess I'll have to find how to buy and get them re-installed ?????

It still has it's day/night mirror and still working OK as it should.

I have found fragments of it's original blue carpeting here and there.

It now has two outside mirrors instead of it's original one mirror.

No wheel covers anymore, long gone........

As is the spare wheel and hold down bolt ( or whatever is used to hold down the spare wheel in 'em ), they both long gone.

Padded front seat, not much padding there now, it's down to the seat springs underneath the blanket "seat covering" that is there from when it was imported.

It was a daily driver in Van Nuys , California prior to it's import into Australia, I can't believe the CA owner didn't feel the seat springs under his butt !!

Neil,

There are pics of it in the Australia/New Zealand section of the forum, though these were taken by the original importer into Australia ( a VERY nice lady too ) at her place .This nice lady sold it to another guy who had it briefly and then onsold it to me.

The bottom pic is at Denny Diner in CA ?? . The uniformed guy in the photo was the security guard and I'm told he looked after the car in their car park at night for the owner.

I do have some new pics of the car that I have taken here at my place.

I'll bribe my techno savvy son into putting 'em up on the forum tonight in the appropriate place.

Cheers,

Terry

...Yeah, in Members Rides, Eh?

Howcum Aussies don't say "eh"???

Whoa---I saw the check-mark on the check-mark sheet by P.S., and assumed.......that the Broadcast Sheet confirmed that
option, too.

Upon further review, the B.-Sheet is NOT coded for :"Pow Strg"-- #301, so, it did not have P/S installed, OEM, and that
check-mark would appear to be in error.

#653 may mean that your car was the 653rd car built that day, but the B.-Sheet indicates that it was supposed to be the 359th
car built that day.

Your car's IBM build card will confirm when it was built, and shipped out of the factory.

Your car was delivered to its selling dealership via Truck.

Have you sent away for your car's IBM Build Card, yet?

--Just looked at your car's pics, in OZ and US; the 'gill' ornaments were added by someone after your car
was built---they would be coded as option "407; ornament"

BOY, it looks GOOD in flat black!

As a treat for it, I'd keep 'my' eyes out for a set of dual rear antennae to install on it; as it is a semi-Rod,
you don't have to pay big-bux for a correct MoPar set; there care other units (Chubbies?) out there
that happen to look a lot like the Mope guys.....

Yeah, we do say " 'eh " Neil, but if I typed here all the time in our 'straylian slang , no one 'cept us Aussies would be able to understand !!

Nup, haven't sent away for it's birth certificate yet, it's in my " in " tray ATM.

Yep, I like it in flat black, normally I'd be the sort of guy that would paint it back to original but it was painted flat black in the U.S so it's no longer a virgin now I reckon. !!

So , since I really love the flat black, it's staying like that, though it wasn't a professional job, whoever did it sanded over some of the stainless trim 'cos you can see the orbital sander marks here and there on it.

Whilst I'll only be repainting via my limited home based knowledge and materials, I think I should be able to do it a bit more professionally than it was done previously.

Yep, I guess it's kind semi-rod looking ain't it, though it's pretty much as factory 'cept for the flat black and those vomit wheels on it.

I'd like to put some wide smoothies or some wide magnum style wheels on it but that's about it for customising.

Cheers.

Dual rear antennae are badass, on a sedan, and their chrome would really stand out against the flat black, like the rest of the trim does, right now.

The OEM blue interior would also be a nice contrast, against the black---very unusual (no red!).
