I am confused about the application of this guy.

It has 5 buttons, which is consistent with a 56 Dodge pick up, which did have the Torqueflite transmissions
available on them.

The location of the buttons and the two mounting holes is not the same as the 57+ T/Flite pushbutton layout.

A T/F 56 Dodge truck pushbutton face plate can provide a 100% correct-looking T/F installation, as the T/F
truck face plate matches the appearance of the rest of its dash panel inserts.

The truck T/F face plate is the hardest part to find, for a proper-looking T/F installation in a 56 Dodge (which only came with the very dependable 2-speed PowerFlite trannie).

OK; it's a 4-sure 56 Dodge T/F face plate; but, a guy might have to score any 1956 MoPar T/F guts in order to
get the pushbutton arrangement that configures to the face plate design.

Also, the '1' and '2' pushbuttons will have to be used---or, rather, all five of the T/F pushbuttons will have to
be used, along with the Dodge chrome-surround bezels.

Neil, Dave Homstad already did this to his car. Here is a link to his doc on what he did...

I am quite sure Torqueflite was only available in senior mopar models such as Imperial and Chrysler in 1956. The one on ebay is for a 57-59 Dodge Truck with LoadFlite, which is a heavy duty Torrqueflite.

desotohead hank can answer this one real easy if he can see this thread but for 56 , the torqueflite was used in imperial and late year desoto . how do i know , because we helped track down a 57 dodge truck shifter that is the same as the 56 cars for his 56 desoto and it was rather expensive at the time , i think it was 147$ bid that hank won it for . we didn't find a face plate at the time so hank had one custom machined to fit the shifter . not long ago a face plate was on ebay and i pointed it out to hank but by that time it was too late , he had a custom one -------------------------------------------------later

it'd be my guess the one on ebay now is for a truck considering it's not listed in my car parts manuals form 55-59

this is what homstad said ,
Shift button cluster. If using an early cast iron TF and the original PF button cluster and cable, this operation is not required. The 57 - 59 Dodge truck TF 3 speed cluster, which has the same button cover plate appearance (chrome with horizontal bars, P/N 1705370), will fit into the 56 Dodge PF housing. Some late 56 Chryslers and Imperials used a 3 speed cluster, but the cover plate is a different style. If installing a 3 speed TF cluster, or a new cable for a 727 TF, follow these steps.

Here's some photos of a TF shifter that I bolted into a 56 Plymouth PF shifter pod. Needs a custom cover plate.
