Location: Parts Unknown | True DeSotos wore zinc plated hood hinge assemblies. Sweeps had "barn red" paint on theirs because they are Dodge.

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | Maybe not always... my totally original '58 'Sweep Sportsman out of Lynch Rd (I think) did not have barn red paint, but black. Feb '58 production iirc.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | The Firesweeps were built on the Dodge assembly lines, so they should have the Dodge-style hood hinges on them, which should feature the red-painted hood springs. No Dodges ever had black hood springs (but, never-say-never, I know..) I still wonder about the silver-zinc colored hood springs being put onto the 'big' DeSotos, though. Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | It's been gone several years so I could be mistaken, but if they weren't black they may have been a dirty-greasy silver, however I remember cleaning them somewhat and I'm pretty sure they weren't red... so should 58 Windsors also be red then, since they were also Dodge built? I'll go look at mine later.

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | The color combo on this car is awesome. Many Dodges/Desotos from these years were not colorful OEM. If I get to my Dodge someday it will not be all black.

Veteran Posts: 254 Location: Austria, Vienna | Hi Paul, Yes it is original. Those were also on Dodges 58-59 and probably on some other cars. Max
