Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | Can I surgest that you throw out a figure that your sort of looking for? Doing that would give perspective buyers an idea as to what to offer, if its low enough, even people that are not buyers may become buyers.

Elite Veteran Posts: 967 Location: Canada | I'm taking the haggle out of it, would like to but don't need to sell it. $13,800.00 with rims on it plus original rims and wheel covers, or $13,000.00 and I keep the rims and it comes with 4 steel wheels plus original rims and wheel covers.....
60 Imp |
| ||
Location: North Australia | That is a good price Troy! I paid the same for my driver 60 Imperial (from San Fran) in '09. If there is a buyer looking for a 59 NY 2drht, he she would be well placed in talking to you...soon Fine looking car, I hope you are selling because you want to, Steve.

Elite Veteran Posts: 967 Location: Canada | Thanks Steve, I think so too. Add in the fact the US dollar is about $1.10 Canadian right it pretty much takes 10% off the price of the car in U.S. funds....

Elite Veteran Posts: 726 Location: Some Island called Prince Edward | I assume the car has been in California most of it's life? When did it come to Nova Scotia? Original paint? Any floor or body work?

Elite Veteran Posts: 967 Location: Canada | Original California car, shipped to Edmonton in the mid 80"s. Driven there a few summers, then shipped to Nova Scotia. Stored here for abut 25 years (Not on the road) I got it out about 5 years ago, had the brakes, carb, valve seals, exhaust.....etc done and have put about 10,000 miles on it. Floors, trunk pan, rockers rock solid. (Factory undercoating peeling off). I think front top of the passenger fender might have some fill (Car was painted once when it first came to N.S.)

You got that right - penny wise and pound foolish with deep pockets and short arms. This New Yorker is a typical example but glad to see it went to a good home probably never to be seen again in North America. I just couldn't believe how long it took for this car to be sold....believe me, if I didn't already have more cars than I can comfortably deal with, this one would be with me.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7417 Location: northern germany | to me the 59 chrysler belong to the underrated fl's. a great, clean design. that was a steal and yes, definitely asleep, these cars are more appreciated over here. in the time it was offered for sale in america, gazillions of tri chevys changed their owners, for 5+ times that money. Expert 5K+ Posts: 5007 | Plenty of people have the money, but it needs a full restore and that is costly. Its a great deal and a great price but restores can scare people. Plus its in Canada, way up in Canada And on the coast at that. These cars are not a cake walk to restore. These things are as rare as hen's teeth here also. So much people just don't even realize what they are. I have never seen a any 57-59 yorkers at any cars shows that I can remember. And we have daily fricking car shows(Summit racing HQ is 15 minutes down the road). I saw some 4 doors I think at a mopar show last year. But it also isn't a 57-58 and no 392 hemi, and plenty of surface rust. I would have bought it but I went for the 57 and I now have 4 projects, I am good for 20 years of restoration for now.

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | That car doesn't need restoration, that minor surface rust means nothing. The interior is fine for use unless the owner want's original, certainly not mandatory. It's not a matter of taste, Chevys are heavily featured in cliche pop culture US media so of course the average person knows them, also since 10 times the number of Chevs vs all FLs were made new, so almost every family had or knew one, where FLs are unknown to most people and far more difficult and expensive to find parts for, while a '55-57 Chevy is easily restored from a catalog and is a well known and liquid commodity. But with 320 million people there's still plenty of folks who like FLs, yet one look at what's really going on in the US economy and the decimation of the middle class will tell you exactly why people can't afford to risk buying a toy with limited appeal and resale ability, except for the rarest examples. The average Scandinavian (and I still have family there) is far more prosperous and can easily afford such frivolous toys. Certainly there's several US folks on this very site who'd have bought this '59 if they could have afforded it. Edited by firedome 2016-05-25 10:01 AM

My biggest concerns were the interior seat covers and dash pad which could be easily fixed. The bumper(s) may need some attention but I think for $5K or even less, the car could be a drive and show car even if not 100% factory original. Regardless, this will be one fine automobile.
