Elite Veteran Posts: 1150 Location: Southern California | Hey Guyman, yeah she needs some bodywork, that's why she's at the shop, there gonna straighten her up. Only rust was a little at rear rockers both sides, there gonna cut out the rust and replace with new metal. Yeah this is gonna be a budget build not a complete resto just satin black, roof as well all black. Gonna have her 413 rebuilt with a mild cam and go through the drivetrain/brakes.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Wasn't baggin' on your ride....looks like you are doing it right instead of covering it up!....So aI ppreciate the work going into it trust me, been restoring cars for 30 plus years...this stuff takes time and skill to do it right. Glad you have a nice shop to do it up! You will probably have yours on the road wayyyy before me...I have to do the front end next, drop in the new engine and trans etc before I even think of putting on the dog house to finish up the bodywork. Cheers., Guy

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Just put on the front dog house tonight and noticed a few lining up issues. The back of the hood is about 1/4 inch too high in the back and the hood spring brackets are all the way down....so not sure if I need to elongate the holes on the spring mounts or??? springs look good and hold up the hood nicely...the hood lines up perfectly in the front edge and side fender lines...perfect....but high in the back..have to push down the back to make the hood go down...and it's still not low enough. Second...the driver door is way out on the bottom front corner and on the top edge but don't se a way of adjusting. I know someone knows what I am talking about....suggestions? Thanks (image.jpg) (image.jpg) Attachments ---------------- image.jpg (72KB - 138 downloads) image.jpg (64KB - 134 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | The hood problem may be the hinge points worn out, but I sort of remember there was something funny about adjusting them, maybe bring the hinges up so thet the hinges have to collaps more Something like that? With the door (and dont look at my door gaps, there terrible) but you should be able to loosen the bots a little on the A pillar, close the door, then (carefully) push the door in with your foot, then try and open it again to tighten the bolts up I have to say, I spent weeks trying to get my doors (4 door) right and still could use some more tweaking Thing is, as the rear panels and sills cant move, you have to get it as right as possible to them, then the front gaurds ect can be adjusted to match the doors (thats the theory)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Yeah...what a bitch..haha....you gotta get those doors all lined up before you put the fenders on, cause they bolt on to everything...the inner fender, the radiator support, the lower red. support, the hood hinge!...not sure why the door was out to begin with?...the fenders are replacement originals from another car...they don't fit at the back edge at all like the original ones to the car did...but I suspect whoever painted the car before I got it didn't know how to line up panels!, Me., I gotta have them perfect...so have to figure it out before I mover forward with the car......so gonna have to do a lot of dollying and massaging to get the gaps right...I think maybe on the hood., I have the spring perches way too far down?....but seems like they would need to be lower on the firewall to bring down the back of the hood?...

Expert Posts: 2312 Location: Arizona | I recall lining up a hood on a pontiac and depending on a lot of things sometimes you need to go down to go up and vice versa. If my memory is right the problem was that the whole hinge needs to move up and down so it stays parallel with the hood (when it's closed). If you wind up lowering the hinge unevenly you can make the front go down but at the same time it makes the back go up. Does that make any sense. Plus, like has been mentioned, sometimes its just that the hinge pivots are wore out which makes the whole thing sort of squeeze UP under spring pressure. Last car I did I still wound up elongating the slotted holes in the new hinge to finally get the last bit of DOWN I needed.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Not sure why, but had to elongate all the holes to lower the hinge....it's fits nice now, but still have to push down on the back of the hood for it to go all the way down...usually that means the spring is stretched out somewhat. Getting close. Edited by guyman 2014-12-10 10:08 PM (image.jpg) (image.jpg) Attachments ---------------- image.jpg (94KB - 129 downloads) image.jpg (84KB - 129 downloads)
