Location: Parts Unknown | I like the more slippery 30's - 40's designs as art, but never liked driving them. A lot of work (drive like an old truck) and they have terrible visibility with those tiny windows. Another one of those cases where I like them, but I would not want to own one. Another turn-off for me is the legions of same era cars turned into hotrods, with their bright paint, flames, louvres, and (gag) big tires and wheels. Never could get with that scene. If I am going to go to the trouble of a really old car, I'll go all the way back to the 20's to get the big windows and more "contraption-like" feel and appearance. Still, what is cooler than seeing a car like these going down the road in original appearance ? | ||

Location: The Mile High City | Not Mine! 1953 dodge desoto 2 door convertible with a original hemi, this car has been in the family for over 26 years and has always been garaged kept and very well taken care of, the car starts up just fine and sounds great, the tranny shifts into forward and reverse But the brakes need to be serviced in order for the car to be road worthy along with a general check ,and she will be ready to roll .the body is in excellent condition with no signs of rust showing on the car, the paint looks great but could use a quick clean and wax to bring the luster out, the top is in perfect condition without any dry rotting or tears to speak of, along with that the interior is rather nice and shows well. Location: The Mile High City | At least a block east! I think the photographer must have been many, many blocks east with a zoom lens. There were only a few buildings I recognized, but the house with the gable-end brown roof is one. Also the building with the high hipped roof corners. I can't figure out how the photographer got the house with the brown roof to line up with the state capitol and was able to get those proportions! When I went out there thinking I could get a similar shot, I just don't see how the angle exists! If you could get the house with the brown roof and the state capitol closer, it seems like the state capitol would be tiny! Maybe it was some different type of lens like a zoom or fish-eye or ??? I did actually take the image a block east of Mountain States, like you might think from Joe's photograph. Here is the un-cropped image with the reference points in yellow. Somehow that image above was far enough away that all of the reference points on the south side of the street lined up a bit better. Member Posts: 18 Location: Golden, CO | Just noticed this Non-Forward Look thread and thought I'd post a few photos of my 53 Dodge Coronet convertible. Originally a Denver car, I bought it about nine years ago from the family of the original owners. One of 4,100 produced and an early build, it is one of the oldest, and possibly the oldest, Dodge hemi convertible still existing. It's never been restored and still has its original interior, top & 90% of paint, plus of course, original driveline & most options then available. We (at least I) could handle some more photos, e.g. interior, engine bay, etc. Regarding the vestigial fins, not sure about 53 but I know by 1954, the Dodge Royals played up the vestigial fins by adding a chrome fin on top. I know about that fin because my Dad added them to his 1955 Canadian Dodge (Plodge) when he got the car in 1956 and the big fins were out. (My uncle worked at the Chryco parts warehouse depot in Regina, Saskatchewan so getting those fins back in 1956 was relatively easy)(My uncle had them on his 55 Dodge Mayfair V8 too) 1954 Royal with the extra chrome fins: Edited by 56D500boy 2018-12-27 5:27 PM | ||

Interesting that the ad you posted talks about the 6 cylinder engine, but not the Red Ram V8 which is pictured in the chassis. Member Posts: 18 Location: Golden, CO | Dave, I'll try to take some photos of the chute before too long. As I recall, it stops short of the air cleaner by at least several inches. I'd be surprised if it provided much of a boost other than bringing in cooler outside air, but is just another of the things that make 50's Mopars neat. What you did on your 56 was probably more effective. If you wanted to make it more factory appearing, you might look around for a 53 - 54 hood, as it might be possible to adapt some of it to your car. Rich | ||
