This stinks, and it could happen to any of us.

Gotta keep them locked up. Even then there's no guarantee. All it takes it some scumbag following you to find out where the car is stored.

At least the car is still there. Hope he gets some insurance money to help put it back.

I agree. It never has happened to me yet. I hope it never does. Minor Hill Police will know who my '61 fury belongs to. I will say this if a car thief gets a shot of rock salt or lead in his ass by the car's owner I have no sympathy for him.
When I was living in FL a tow truck driver who was also a friend of mine told me he caught some one trying to steal his 1989 firebird . He snuck up behind the thief and clobbered him in the back of the head with a 2x4 I told him he did the right thing.
If this was me I would keep a 9mm close by

there really are a *LOT* of scumbag JEALOUS types out there that get "ticked" to see 'better-off-than-they-are' driving around in nice cars...
but it also MORE OFTEN THAN NOT comes down to "life decisions", MOST of these JEALOUS TYPES make more money than i do !!!...
i just "manage" my money better and i have different "priorities" for my money - ie, i'd rather have four OLD cars than ONE brand new one, the four OLD cars added up in value is LESS than ONE new car !!!...

i've had DOZENS of occasions where JEALOUS sh#tb@gs (!*ALWAYS* driving 80s/90s **PICKUP TRUCKS**!) get TICKED just at the SIGHT of one of my old cars, peel their tires, look of "you're no better than me" on their face...
even at times YELLING out the window, "we don't care about your stupid car"...

um, yes you do, or it wouldn't have "affected" you so much...
it happens so often that i drive country roads back from town just to make sure i'm not being followed...

it really could happen to ANY of us...
ONE sh#tb@g jealous type finding out where it is stored...

I HAVE SECURITY CAMERAS FEEDING OFF-SIGHT VIDEO JUST FOR ADDED SECURITY...

in my opinion, people don't "steal" these cars, they DEFACE them out of JEALOUSY...
you can't SELL parts from these cars without the TRUE OWNER finding out !!!...
it's not like you can sell a RARE PART to just "anybody"...

I had someone follw me as i was headed home one night with my Fury. When i noticed him folling me, i made a few unnecessary turns, which he made right along with me. When i drove to the local police station, he just kept going.

I had one car follows me at night from the from the highway, he was trying to get my attention, flashing his headlights when he finally was at my side I was gladly surprised by a beautiful 1961 Imperial. "same year!" he shouted!

I was waved over the other day by a CHP officer that followed me for a ways. Once I pulled over he apologized and asked if he could get some pics of the '58 Fury I was driving. Turns out his father drag raced a brand new '58 Belvedere that was ordered with the 350 Commando engine when the officer was a little boy.

Nice encounter!

I have had that same thing happen with my DeSotos. The 56 Adventurer,
60 Fireflite, and 58 Fireflite I have now. Big apologies for "abusing" the lights,
but had some big interest in the car. This was back when I was having lots
of police problems, so it was a real relief to find a cool cop amongst my
antogonists.

I think I'm going to inform the registry department of state I live in my country to hide my license plate. Here were I live the license plates are personal and not related to a specific car like in most other countries. With a simple app of an iPhone or Android phone anybody could find out where I live, because the app displays my complete address.

Happy Restoring!

Dieter

BTW: this story reminds my about the deck lid ornament of my Letter (was in place at the sellers place, but not a the storage place to put it into the container...), but what I read at the link - it's an MCA

Good idea Dieter, I can't believe the government allows that info on the net.

I also remember one episode when I was coming out of the movie theater heading to my 61 New Yorker when i saw a police car parked in front of it, with blue flashing lights and everything and the policeman walking around my car. At that split second hundred of reasons "WHY" go over your head...

I approached him with caution and he asked me "is this your car"? Yes, I said.

He said: "Man I haven't seen Bias Ply tires since I was a children, I remember my dad making me clean them to perfection using only soap".... He also asked my permission to touch them..

It is amazing how childhood experiences affect us all...
