Extreme Veteran Posts: 301 Location: Alberta Canada | Swapping out a 318 poly in a '63 Plymouth and replacing it with an '88 LA out of a 5th Ave. The motor mounts are a bit of an issue-the driver's side lines up great so the poly engine mounts bolt right on but the passenger's side doesn't work out. The bottom bolt doesn't line up when the mount is bolted up the way it came off the poly-see photo. If you flip it over the mount looks right but you can't bolt up one of the bolts on the double-bolt side of the mount. Is there a trick to this or is there an adapter available? If you don't have the resources to make a mount or an adapter for the original mount, you can mock one up with cardboard and get a welding shop to make one up for you. It's not complicated or expensive, you just have to make sure the geometry is right. With a fabbed from scratch mount you may want to do both sides, your isolating engineering should be close to the same on both sides-- eg: the same material and thickness. You just make a U shaped bracket and use a rubber or urethane pad. You can use solid mounts but they will shake. I'd probably buy 2 new mounts, and modify the one that is giving you a hard time. They are cheap. Wondering what you did/are going to do with your transmission options. The 63 transmission is better for setting up your push buttons and parking brake. You also need to ditch all that computer stuff. 88 Wasn't a good year for electronics. The motor is probably the same as any LA engine, and isn't innately troublesome. -JV

So your new motor is too narrow to fit into the original place. You need to extend them out to get it to work. All 273 and 318 LA mounts are the same. 340 and 360 motors have a different driver-side mount only, but use the same passenger side mount as the 318.

Member Posts: 5 | Hi All; I have a 55 dodge coronet 2dr with a junk 270, and I have a 88 Chrysler 5th ave 318I am going to put the 88 in the 55. the 270 is front mounted to front cross member with a horse-shoe type mount. I think a set of truck engine mounts then rectangle style rubber mounts , then weld in frame mounts would work . I cant find the steel mounts for the motor to rubber will gladly take any ideas. Expert Posts: 1740 Location: Alaska | I would look at a Dodge p.u. from the 70s to 80s. I believe their mounts are attached to the frame on each side like you are looking for. Make sure it was a V-8 not a 6.
