| Hi All,
I thought I fixed the power steering box leak on my 58 the other days, I had fluid come out of the return line valve body, the cause was some old o rings. Today I took the car out, it drove fine but when I got home I noticed a huge puddle of power steering fluid on the floor. I checked the pump and it was bone dry. So basically I drove around for 20 minutes with no fluid, not good.
I know I need to rebuild the box or get a replacement at this point but my concern is a previous owner installed a new GM style Saginaw pump. I'm wondering if this is putting too much pressure on the original box. I'd like to put an original in one day but am I right thinking that the wrong pump is damaging the original box and its seals?
Thanks,
Sam

Location: Williams California | I would check the outlet pressure from the Saginaw pump, and see if it is anywhere close to the specs on the Mopar one. If output pressure is similar, your steering box may just be due for a reseal.

| I need to take a better look. I don't know what model number pump is in there so I just can't look it up. I do know however that if you use a GM style pump with a Ford rack and pinion it's a very jittery feel in the wheel. That's what prompted my question, just wondering if I was having the same issue with the stock Dodge box and non original pump.
