| Hi I am a new member, my dad and I own a 1958 Desoto Fireflite, we have had it about a year, we are having a few issues with it's handbrake system? we think? the car doesn't want to move forward but is happy to roll back, I jacked up the front wheels (one at a time) and spun them forward and back as I thought we had a sticking Drum brake (4 wheel power boosted drums) but they were ok, when I did this at the rear the wheels, they rolled back with a little resistance but wont go forward?? Any suggestions please |

Location: Hayward, Calif | Have you recently replaced brake shoes ? short shoe goes to the front. If you remove the driveshaft at the diff this will help determine if problem is parking brake or rear brakes. Try getting both rear wheels off the ground and try turning one wheel at a time. With any luck the problem is at one wheel. If so try backing off on the adjustment. Check your service manual as to which way to turn that adj'er. Adjusting these brakes can get a little tricky if not familiar with them. Good Luck, Jerry |

| Hi Jerry, I had to get a mechanic to look at it in the end, the transmission was jammed between gears, so Monday it is off to the transmission specialist.
thanks again Stuart |
