Member Posts: 17 | I saw that and thought the same thing, it looks vintage and I was not sure if it was added or not, it looks original so my guess was it was there by default when the car was made before the car was built and optioned according to the order, as is the front dash speaker mesh/grille.

Member Posts: 17 | I just looked at it and the grille is just laying there, not bolted or screwed down, could be from the assembly line as mentioned or just a grille that was put there by whomever through the years, it is definitely a radio delete car, I would rather trade for something so I am hoping someone has an interesting car or project but I am open to offers, thanks.

Member Posts: 17 | 57burb, That was my line of thought, that since it was a literal no option car, it might be just one of a few, your dog dishes would complete the look. Hemi Powered, Send me some pics to hemiorangechallenger@gmail.com, I would prefer mopar but we can take a look at it. Edited by desertsky 2016-01-11 9:32 PM

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | What a cool car! It's even more bare bones than the '57 Plaza that Doctor Desoto is restoring. Are we looking at the lowest cost '58 Mopar possible? LP1L indicates a 6-cylinder Plaza, with 1472 built and this one number 982. It's well worth the asking price. I hope someone jumps on this project and saves it. I have a set of dog dishes I would donate to the cause! Or if someone wants to make a drag car like they would have in the early-mid '60s, that could be cool too. Location: Parts Unknown | 57burb - 2016-01-12 6:15 PM What a cool car! It's even more bare bones than the '57 Plaza that Doctor Desoto is restoring. Are we looking at the lowest cost '58 Mopar possible? LP1L indicates a 6-cylinder Plaza, with 1472 built and this one number 982. ==================================================== My car, while a stripper in exterior appearance, got a lot of money spent on options .... 318, TF, PS, PB, and A/C ! I am happy with that, because it has the bare bones look, but a lot of the "driver comfort" goodies to make it a little nicer to drive. It was always my intention to try and replicate the nearly identical car I saw under a tall pile of cars at Ray's Auto Wrecking in the early 80's ... basically a monotone Buzzard Puke Green 58 Plaza 4 door sedan with dog dishies and blackwalls. The car at Ray's was a six, but had a floor shifter retrofitted to the 3-speed manual. I still have the shifter. Can we get some detail photos of that rear seat area ? This subject was kicked around at length a few years ago, with no real conclusions. Perhaps there are clues about how Mother Mopar finished this area in on the biz-coops on this car ???

Member Posts: 17 | Not sure why my recent posts are pushed to the bottom of the thread or is that just what I am seeing from my screen, not sure, Doctor DeSoto, I can get a few more details of the rear seat area, is there anyplace in particular anyone would like a close up of? Glad to document anything else while I am at it, let me know, might need some assistance in posting them, beyond that no problem.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | If you put a 300D hemi, 350 or 361 motor in that, it would be the equivalent of a '58 Road Runner. High performance on the cheap. Edited by Powerflite 2016-01-12 12:09 AM

Expert Posts: 1740 Location: Alaska | Doc, one thing we have determined from this car and mine, the brackets to hold the rear seat in place were torched off apparently at the factory but I have no idea what the panels looked like for the seat delete.

Member Posts: 17 | Car is a great project car, az car so very solid but there are a couple of minor spots that I would patch, even out here just due to age there can some minor rust, I will try and get more pics, there are no door panels or rear panels, bench seat is in good shape framewise and springwise, upholstery on bench has expired and hay/stuffing is showing, doors, hood and deck lid close clean and fit well, never any collision damage besides the dent or two in the bumper, firewall and engine bay are clean, as seen in the images, the heater delete and blower motor delete covers are there, dash is 100% complete, great overall car, would also do a package deal for the business coupe and a 1969 dodge super bee, numbers matching car, 383 AT, WM21 it is also a builder but 100% there and was recently running and driving, recently had all trim, grill, tail lights removed and boxed for a re-paint, in primer now, factory rallye dash, M46 factory side scoops, has fender tag, 15 for both, do not want to muddy the waters on the business coupe car but did want to mention the Bee in case someone might like that deal better. Bee is in storage so it would take me a week or so for pictures, but can describe details if interested. Edited by desertsky 2016-01-12 11:19 AM

Location: The Mile High City | painted horn ring. I wonder if this one came with painted hub caps. looks like a genuine no-frills car. can anyone read the data plate? I wonder if this had any options at all (looks like it might have a back-up light)? It reminds me of that absolutely no-option '58 Dodge club coupe a member owned. Location: Parts Unknown | From above: I really, really hope someone restores this to factory original and not hot-rod or Christine it. I would sleep better knowing that at least one of these remains as built. ------------------ Yes that Dodge was Jeff's car here in upstate NY... I think he finally cut it up as there was no interest in it! ================================== There are a very few of us (although the number seems to be growing) of fools who are bored with the same-old, same-old cars and have found the strippers to be a purposely ignored and interesting alternative to the over-blinged go-fast mobiles. Tan and puke green sedans and wagons with dog dishies and blackwall tires may not have the Barrett-Jackson sex appeal of the big-engined, red and white ego stroker, but they represent a very real part of the times and they say quite a bit about the personalities involved - attention seeker vs. someone genuinely interested in period cool. As built ? Even mine was not quite stripped enough and I removed the side trim to give it the lowest possible de-optioning for exterior trim available for 58. Elite Veteran Posts: 836 Location: Layton, Utah | I assume that the Business Coupes would have had a cardboard panel separating the trunk and passenger compartment, but how was it attached ? Did the rubber floor mat go all the way to this panel ? Any seat brackets were removed from the body I'm sure ? Love the stripper cars !!!

Expert Posts: 1324 Location: Hickory, NC | The rear seat was optional. So I don't know if they'd remove the seat anchors. Unless if the seat was not ordered then someone torched them out? But I don't even know if they'd waste time doing that. The Chevy "utility sedans" at least in 1960 had a small platform in the back. Did the Plymouths just have nothing? I still think they'd do some kind of finish work to the back seat area. What did the rear door panels look like? Were they still vinyl like up front or the cheapo colored board like in the 2dr wagons? Too bad there isn't a "survivor" around or factory documentation to take notes off of. Location: Parts Unknown | I've mentioned this here before .... I got the chance to look at a 1959 Chevy business coupe and the rear seat area treatment was pretty much the platform as shown above. It is the only one of ANY make I have ever seen in unmolested condition to indicate how they were trimmed out originally. Out of curiosity, 58 was the last year for Plaza, but did Plymouth give up building business coupes after 58 too ? I can't remember ever hearing about one after 58.
