Expert 5K+ Posts: 9918 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Last week I needed new tires on my 56 CR D500. The tires that came on the car when I bought it in Sept were likely 25 years old. They had lots of tread but the wide white side walls were scary. Since I had purchased "cop" wheels at a swap meet in early October, I had the new tires installed on the cop wheels. I also had the old tires removed from the OE wheels and recycled. When I saw the wheels I was surprised. I knew that somebody had painted them wedgewood blue over an a white but I thought that the white was not factory. HOWEVER, when I saw the wheels without tires, I saw that the inner portion of the wheels was painted white (off white- likely the three tone white roof colour). I found this confusing. I fully expected all black. One of the backsides of one of the wheels was black. (The others were rust). Here are some photos of the evolution of the wheels on my car: As the car emerged from 25 years in an underground parking garage: New 235/75/15 light truck/van tires on the cop car wheels: The OE 5.5" x 15" D-500 wheels showing the off-white base paint: Edited by 56D500boy 2016-11-30 9:38 PM (DaveFs56CRD500Wheels.jpg) Attachments ---------------- DaveFs56CRD500Wheels.jpg (201KB - 183 downloads)

I bought the car in 1978, and the wheels did not appear to have ever been painted since new. So if your 56 came the same way, the outside of the wheels would have been light blue to match the body color. Don H.

Have a look at the lower lip of the wheel in the front of the line in this photo. It shows the off-white under where the wheel balancing weight had been located at some point before the wheels were painted blue (on the car - the read axle nut and axle were painted blue as well).
