Regular Posts: 61 | Did the 58 Firelite ever come with a 2 speed Powerflite attached to a 361. I thought 3 speed Torqueflites were standard?

Regular Posts: 61 | There is a reason I'm asking, in my ongoing discussions with the insurance co they have compared in their evaluations to a 58 Flite with 361and a 2 sped auto. I'm not sure such a thing exists. In my manual it says a Sweep with a 350 could come with one but that's all. It seems to have only been to church and back twice so probably not a replacement and who would replace a Torque with a Power anyway I was hoping one of you might have seen one, somewhere, before I get into it with them seriously.

I tried looking in the 55-58 Parts pdf and all I could find was Powerflite in the 55-56 Desotos and Torqueflight in the 57-58 Desotos. The adverts in 1957 specifically mention the Torqueflite. Doesn't mean that a 57 didn't for some reason get a Powerflite. What does your push button pad look like? NRDL or NRD21?

Regular Posts: 61 | Mine is a 58 with 3 speed Torque just like it's supposed to be And its possible some 57s might have had a 2 speed I don't know But the insurance co is talking about a 58 Flite with a 2 speed to compare it to and I don't think one exists

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9911 Location: Lower Mainland BC | OOps. It would appear that the Firesweep could be had with either the 3 spd Torqueflite *OR* the 2 spd Powerflite. BUT the 58 Fireflite came with the 3 spd Torqueflite as standard. Case closed. Edited by 56D500boy 2017-01-05 10:55 PM

Location: Parts Unknown | What does the insurance company have to do with a transmission ? The answer is no, the T-flite was standard equipment and in 40 years of chasing these cars, I have never seen a P-flite in a Fireflite after the 1956 model cars. Could one have been installed ? Sure. Better grab all the P-flite buttons and trim while you're pulling it out of a Firesweep while you're at it !
