The KD500 325 Hemi engine maybe hard to come by I probably own the only 2 in Canada or until someone shows or calls me on that statement of claim. Keep us posted on your progress and the hotheads swap meet is a great start for hemi's

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5047 | I think a cop car is a pretty cool restore. Is there even one in existence? a restored cop car 57 dodge? I know I see a few floating around not sure if anyone has restored. Even a unmarked hot rod would be cool. A 325 hemi is rough but a 325 isn't that hard or an equivalent. here is one head... and a working 325 poly https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/pts/6030638247.html valve covers... https://elmira.craigslist.org/pts/6041509953.html crank https://cleveland.craigslist.org/pts/6005392016.html

Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10162 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Just an observation: The valve covers don't have the bumps needed to clear the solid lifter adjusters. 315 D500 hemis had (and needed) the bumps because they were solid lifter engines. Not sure whether 325s were solid lifter or hydraulic.

The state of Missouri owns a very nice 1959 Four Door Sedan. I am unsure if it is original or has been restored, but I am betting its been redone. The strange thing is, why would someone mark "police" on the bottom of the dash. to what purpose did that serve? They are not any different than regular dashes... however this car does have a padded dash, which, in a cheapo police car must have been rare. who knows.......

I believe that dashes were pre-assembled with gauges, etc. before the assembly was installed in the car. As a result, because the cop cars likely had special gauges, including a certified accurate speedometer, they might have been marked "Police" to make sure that they went into cop cars and not civilian cars. Maybe.

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | I've seen all kinds of things written on the underside of various FL dashboards; "CONVT" or "BLK", etc. I'm sure that meant something to the people on the line at the time. It might have been because this dashboard was police-specific in some way. Maybe because it has a padded dash in an otherwise basic Coronet.

I don't believe that mine was ever a dual quad as everything on the engine appears to be original……that's always a big statement on here, at least era correct

Why would they have done that? Some circles say the Plymouth wheel was used for the full circumference horn ring. check out this 1961 dodge on Lenos show: http://jalopnik.com/interestingly-enough-in-1961-highway-patrol-car... another with a 57 wheel: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=16118&... Same in 1962: Great find John! That's why you are da KING!! The steering wheel IS factory police. They used those wheels up until 1962 on most police cars (Dodge & Plymouth) due to the full horn ring. All the literature I've read on police cars, feature that '57 Plymmie steering wheel on all models through 1962. I've never seen a '59 Dodge that way, but I'm convinced that's the correct wheel. Here's a photo of a 62 Dart police with the same wheel. Good stuff! Pete. 1958 dodge: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=24757&... Extreme Veteran Posts: 480 Location: Georgetown Texas | eScore - 2017-03-24 11:57 AM Is that a Plymouth steering wheel? Why would they have done that? All factory built Dodge police cars used a 1957 Plymouth steering wheel, from 1957-1962. They were easier for the officers to use and, of course, the cheapest steering wheel chrysler made.
