OK Chuck, Steve, and All. There must be a difinitive answer to these questions. It has probably been on the forums before. Sorry for the repitition.
For instance what Body style is a 1960 Dodge Dart? HOW ABOUT THE 63-66 Darts? What about the 67 and up Darts an similar models?

Is there a chart in any of the interchange books that give clear answers for the models for the 1950s, 60s, and early 70s?

I have heard two to three different styles mentioned for FL cars and would really like to understand the subject better.

i don't pay too much attention to body types------some like to use them rather freely but that's not my bag and their choice !------there has been talk in the past about the body type of the 60-61 DART-until 62 there was no official type for this model------a lot of people like to use B as their body type because it just makes sense------it's the kind of thing that some say it's not an official listing------so the B type listing shouldn't be used------then on the other hand there are vendors in business for many yrs. that use the B type listing for 60-61 DART all the time-----------------------later

Yeah

Thanks Chuck,
I had seen the 60 dodge called an "A", a "B", and a "C" but I really don't think Chrysler used any of those terms for the 60.

This chart says that only 63 and up Darts were "A" body so I doubt its accuracy. And then it says that use of Body letter naming did not start until 1964-65. Duh.

You are right. It aint wuf the hassle

The A. B, C, etc. do not refer to body styles, but just car bodies. A 2-door hardtop is a body style.

To simplify things, the GTX and Road Runner were part of the Belvedere / Satellite lines (1965-1974), while the Plymouth car line included Savoy, Belvedere, Fury and Sport Fury from 1962 to 1964.

The Dodge 220 was only in 1963 - the Canadian line was 220, 330 and 440. For 1964 the Canadian Dodge was the same as the U.S. - 330, 440, Polara and Polara 500.
The 300 (1979) was a Cordoba

The Magnum and Monaco, listed under Chrysler, should be farther up under Dodge

Under C body the Imperial should be - 1967-75

A body wheelbase :
* 106" - 1963-66 Valiant, 1964-66 Dart wagons, 1963-65 Canadian Valiant wagons, 1965 Canadian Valiant 100 series, 1964-66 Barracuda
* 106.5" - 1960-62 Valiant, 1961-62 Lancer
* 108" - 1967-73 Valiant sedans, 1970-76 Valiant Duster. 1971-72 Dart Demon, 1973-76 Dart Sport, 1967-69 Barracuda
* 111" - 1963-66 Dart (except wagons), 1963-64 Canadian Valiant (except wagons), 1965 Canadian Valiant 200/Signet series (except wagons), 1966 Canadian Valiant, 1967-76 Dart sedans and hardtops, 1971-76 Valiant Scamp, 1974-76 Valiant sedans and Brougham

B body wheelbase :
* 115" - 1971-76 Coronet 2-door, 1971-78 Charger, 1977-78 Monaco 2-door, 1978-79 Magnum, 1971-74 Satellite 2-door, 1975-78 Fury 2-door, 1975-79 Cordoba
* 116" - 1962-64 Plymouth, 1962 Dodge Dart, 1963-64 Dodge wagons, 1965 Belvedere, 1965 Coronet wagons, 1966-70 Belvedere / Satellite (except wagons)
* 117" - 1965 Coronet (except wagons), 1966-70 Dodge Coronet, 1966-70 Belevedere/Satellite wagons, 1966-70 Charger, 1971-74 Satellite 4-door
* 117.5" - 1975-76 Coronet 4-door, 1977-78 Monaco 4-door, 1965-78 Fury 4-door
* 118" - 1971-74 Coronet 4-door
* 119" - 1963-64 Dodge (except wagon)

For the C body -

Under wheelbase :
* 119" - 1965-68 Fury (except wagons)
* 120" - 1969-73 Fury (except wagons)
* 121" - 1965-66 Fury wagons, 1965 Custom 880, 1965-66 Polara/Monaco, 1965-66 Chrysler wagons
* 121.5" - 1975-77 Gran Fury (except wagons); 1975-76 Monaco (except wagons), 1975-77 Royal Monaco (except wagons)
* 122" - 1967-73 Fury wagons, 1974 Fury (except wagons), 1967-1973 Polara/Monaco, 1974 Monaco (except wagons), 1967-73 Chrysler wagons
* 124" - 1974 Fury wagons, 1975-77 Gran Fury wagons, 1974-76 Monaco wagons, 1975-77 Royal Monaco wagons, 1965-78 Chrysler (except wagons), 1974-77 Chrysler wagons, 1974-75 Imperial
* 127" - 1967-73 Imperial

The above C body wheelbases are the marketing department's measurements. Chrysler Engineering had 4 wheelbase sizes - 119.5", 121.5", 123.5" and 126.5".
The 121.5" platform was the 119.5" body with 2" added to the floor in the rear seat area while the 123.5" platform was the 119.5" body with 4" added to the rear seat floor area. The 126.5" wheelbase was gained by adding a 3" longer front stub frame to the 123.5" platform.

All 1974 Fury models, except wagons, were on the 122" wheelbase. There were no 120" wheelbase 1974 Fury models, Also, the 1978 Chrysler Town & Country was built on the LeBaron 113" wheelbase body.

The 1965-78 Chrysler series included -
Windsor (Canada 1965-66), Newport, Newport Royal, Newport Custom, Saratoga 300 (Canada - 1965), 300, NewYorker and New Yorker Brougham

The 1960 full-size cars, except Imperials, were called the A body that year while the Valiant was X. The 1960-64 full-size model lisitng includes :

* 118" - 1960-61 Plymouth (except wagons), 1960-61 Dodge Dart (except wagons)
* 122" - 1960-61 Plymouth (wagons), 1960-61 Dodge Dart (wagons). 1960 Dodge Matador/Polara, 1961 Dodge Polara, 1962-64 Dodge Custom 880, 1963-64 Dodge 880, 1960-61 DeSoto, 1960-64 Chrysler Windsor, 1961-64 Chrysler Newport, 1961-63 Chrysler Saratoga, 1964 Chrysler Saratoga 300, 1962-64 Chrysler Sport 300, 1962-64 Chrysler 300 letter series, 1963-64 Chrysler New Yorker, 1963-64 Chrysler New Yorker Salon
* 126" - 1960 Chrysler Saratoga, 1960-61 Chrysler 300 letter series, 1960-62 Chrysler New Yorker (including wagons)

The 122" wheelbase models used the 118" platform with a 4" extension in the rear seat floor area. The 126" wheelbase models were the 122" bodies with a 4" longer hood.

And, of course, there was the D body, although the "D" title was not used until 1965 :
* 129" - 1957-66 Imperial

And there was no such thing as a "Y" body prior to 1981. The "Y" before 1981 referred to the Imperial car LINE, not the car BODY.

Chrysler had three bodies in the 1949-56 era. Introduced in 1949, the two regular sized bodies had smaller versions while the larger body was used as the basis for the long wheelbase models. In 1953 the small body was completely redone and the two 'junior' editions were killed. The larger bodies received a major reworking and both were overhauled for 1955.

And these were all body-and-frame construction. No Unibody until 1960.

For the 1949-52 bodies :

The "A" body (for want of a better term) :
* 111" - 1949-50 Plymouth DeLuxe and Dodge DeLuxe - business coupe, 2-door sedan and 2-door wagon, 1951-52 Plymouth Concord and Dodge Kingsway - business coupe, 2-door sedan and 2-door wagon (floor ahead of rear axle shortened 4½")
* 118½" - 1949-50 Plymouth and Dodge DeLuxe / Special DeLuxe - sedans, convertibles, 4-door wagons, 1951-52 Plymouth Cambridge/Cranbrook and Dodge Crusader/Regent sedans, hardtops, convertibles

The "B" body -
* 115" - 1949-52 Dodge Wayfarer business coupe, 2-door sedan and 2-door roadster / convertible coupe (floor ahead of rear axle shortened 8½")
* 123½" - 1949-50 Dodge Custom (Canada) & 1949-52 Dodge Coronet (except long wheelbase sedans)
* 125½" - 1949-52 DeSoto (except long wheelbase sedans), 1949-50 Chrysler Royal (except long wheelbase sedans), 1949-52 Chrysler Windsor (except long wheelbase sedans), 1951-52 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe & Saratoga (except long wheelbase sedans) - the 123½" body with a 2" longer hood
* 131½" - 1949-50 Chrysler Saratoga, 1949-52 Chrysler New Yorker, 1949-52 Chrysler Imperial, 1949-51 Chrysler Town & Country - the 123½" body with an 8" longer hood

The "C" body (long wheelbase - cowl & front shared with B) - differences all in the hood :
* 137½" - 1949-50 Dodge Custom (Canada) & 1949-51 Dodge Coronet
* 139½" - 1949-52 DeSoto, 1949-50 Chrysler Royal, 1949-52 Chrysler Windsor, 1951-52 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe & Saratoga
* 145½" - 1949-52 Chrysler Crown Imperial

The 1953-54 bodies -

The "A" body :
* 114" - 1953-54 Plymouth, 1953-54 Dodge (Crusader, Regent, Mayfair), 1953-54 Dodge Coronet 2-door wagons, hardtops and convertibles, 1954 Dodge Royal hardtop & convertible
* 119" - 1953-54 Dodge club coupe and sedan (the 114" body with 5" added to rear floor and roof)

The "B" body "
* 125½" - 1953-54 DeSoto (except long wheelbase sedans), 1953 Chrysler Windsor (except long wheelbase sedans), 1953-54 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe (except long wheelbase sedans), 1953-54 Chrysler New Yorker & New Yorker Deluxe (except long wheelbase sedans)
* 131½" - 1953-54 Chrysler Custom Imperial hardtop (125½" body with 6" longer hood
* 133½" - 1953-54 Chrysler Custom Imperial sedans (the 131½" sedan with a 2" wider B pillar)

The "C" body (long wheelbase - cowl & front shared with B) - difference in hood length :
* 139½" - 1953-54 DeSoto, 1953-54 Chrysler (except Crown Imperial)
* 145½" - 1953-54 Chrysler Crown Imperial

The 1954 Dodge 4-door wagon was the 2-door wagon body extended by the Mitcell Corporation, Ionia, Michigan

The 1955-56 bodies -

The "A" body :
* 115" - 1955-56 Plymouth (all), 1955-56 Dodge (Crusader, Regent, Mayfair)
* 120" - 1955-56 Dodge (Coronet, Royal & Custom Royal) - 5" added to rear floor/ roof

The "B" body "
* 126" - 1955-56 DeSoto, 1955-56 Chrysler
* 129" - 1955 Imperial Custom (sedan - 3" longer front door; hardtop - 3" added behind rear seat
* 133" - 1956 Imperial Custom (126" body with 7" added behind rear seat)

The "C" body (long wheelbase :
* 149½" - 1955-56 Crown Imperial

For 1957 Chrysler cut the body count to two, one for the Imperial and one for all the rest. The base body was the 118" body. The 122" wheelbase models used the 118" platform / frame with a 4" extension in the rear seat floor area and was also used for all wagon models. The 126" wheelbase models were the 122" bodies with a 4" longer hood.

The "A" body :
* 118" - 1957-59 Plymouth (except wagons), 1957-59 Dodge (Crusader, Regent, Mayfair, Viscount) (except wagons)
* 122" - 1957-59 Plymouth (wagons), 1957-59 Dodge (Crusader, Regent, Mayfair, Viscount) (wagons), 1957-59 Dodge (Coronet, Royal & Custom Royal) 1957-59 DeSoto Firesweep, 1958 Chrysler Windsor (US), 1959 Chrysler Windsor
* 126" - 1957-59 DeSoto (Firedome, Fireflite, Adventurer), 1957 Chrysler (all), 1958 Chrysler Windsor (Canada), 1958 Chrysler Saratoga (US), 1958-59 Chrysler Saratoga, New Yorker & 300 letter series
