Hey Fellow Forward Lookers,
I need to pull my power seat out of my 57 New Yorker. Does anyone have instructions on how to do? My manual tells me what wires go where, but no info on removing the seat from the car. Do the motors come with it or do they stay? I know I read on this forum about care to be taken so the racks line up again at install, but I've never pulled a power seat before. i have a feeling there will be some issues with the bolts and the floor..Its pretty rusty, but any other words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks,
billy

The power rack goes with the seat. You unbolt it from below the floor. The rusty screws are going to be your only issue. You will also have to disconnect the power line from the seat, but you can do that once you get the seat loose, and laying on the back seat.

Thanks Nathan...are the motor or motors attached to the floor or the seat?

They are attached to the seat tracks, but the seat tracks are attached to the seat and are difficult to remove from the seat without taking the whole thing out first.

I agree with Nathan here. Remove the eight nuts from under the car. Get a healthy person to assist you in lifting that monster up, then remove the wire and carry it out.

The bolts that come through the floor from the seat mount, will most likely break when you try to remove them. They have a flat head (almost like a stove bolt, but without a domed head) They are spot welded into the frame. I found similar bolts available through Spanaur here in Canada.
