Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Have any of you ever rented your wheels out for movie car use for time period films? I drove a 66 valiant in the doors movie and a 57 Mercury in joy luck club. It only paid like $125 in the early 90s for the day. However I did have a lot fun doing it? I was thinking of trying that again. I would think that FLs would be a first choice of art directors. If so what movies were your cars in?

Veteran Posts: 154 Location: Locked in my Canadian garage.... | I've had several cars in movies. My Demon was in "Tail Lights Fade" with Denise Richards and Jake Busey. They had someone watching my car 24/7. Great experience, they paid well. Honestly depends on your contacts IMO Edited by CrAzYMoPaRGuY 2018-12-12 12:18 AM (1923505_47916501709_4058_n.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1923505_47916501709_4058_n.jpg (51KB - 153 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1348 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | I signed up years ago. Looked like a good outfit. Sent them $25 to register and never heard back from them. A couple years ago, they filmed a movie near me that was set in the 60s. I offered my 60 Plymouth Suburban thinking that everyone drove station wagons when I was a kid in the 60s so it should be perfect. They didn't have any interest in it. Used typical muscle cars and 55-57 Chevys even in the background. Real authentic. It wasn't a movie about muscle cars or even cars, they were just background. What company did you use that you had success with. Later, Karl.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7807 Location: Williams California | In the late '80's when I had a repair shop in Reno, my '58 Mercury 2-door hardtop wagon I had at the time was used as a backdrop in some scenes in downtown Reno for the Clint Eastwood movie, Pink Cadillac. The pay was something like $80 for the night of filming, which I probably pissed away on hot coffee and putting nickels in the slot machines to pass the time. Apparently, those scenes ended up on the cutting room floor also. Another time, a movie called Pretty Hattie's baby was being filmed there, our shop worked on a number of the film company's vehicles, and they asked me to find as many cars from the '60's or fifties to line the streets with. Our car club supplied about fifteen, and I bought cars from some local yards [cheap] to park along the city streets on a daily basis for a month or so. The film company paid $50 per day per vehicle, so with fifteen or so of my own cars, made pretty good money for just moving them around, and it paid for my junkyard cars also. Two days before filming ended, the production stopped, as there was some potential lawsuit involved. The film, to my knowledge, was never released. More recently, the hard rock band, Papa Roach was going to film a music video here in my junkyard, but scheduling conflicts made it impossible. ---John

Expert Posts: 4042 Location: Connecticut | Two of my friends are supplying cars for the Amazon show, Mrs. Maisel, which takes place in the late 50s. From what I understand, a lot depends on location. Scenes shot in Upstate NY were paid at a rate of a few hundred per day per car. Most of the scenes were shot in the NYC and Brooklyn. Pay is significantly higher, with more if the car is used as a principal car. The owners are on set with the cars, mainly to keep an eye on them, and are treated well. For those that haven't seen it yet, there are many late 50s Mopars used in the show. Ron Edited by ronbo97 2018-12-20 11:10 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | My 66 plymouth in the doors movie was out of focus in background for the love in the haight ashbury park scene. In joy luck club I drove a blue 57 Mercury 2dr post with 2x4 (John didn't u wind up with that car)? I was to drive the merc down a very steep hill in San Francisco and stop at stop sign while a lady looked out the window. In take 1 a guy poked his head out one the houses and yelled HEY WHAT ARE DOING MAKING A MOVIE? In take 2 a city fire truck with siren on has to roll past the street By the time take 3 the mercs brakes were hot from the steep hill round the blocks and I locked up the brakes through the stop sign!!!!! The producer was getting mad and switched the merc as background car with a FWD 66 tornado that could handle hill better. The period in the movie was supposed around 1966. The final cut as the camera pans around you can a late 80s dodge van!!! In the shot through another window. When taking a break between takes the lady in charge of booking cars set down her contract folder. Which I picked up and starting reading through until she grabbed it away. If I read it right for 2 days of filming in San Francisco on 2 sets for supplying 15 different vintage cars their bill for studio was $15.000. So they charge about a 1000 for my car and paid me 125. I'm still ok with that though it was fun. I think it adds to a cars interest when you can say it was in a movie. What they said they were looking for the most were cars that don't stand out and blend in to the scene. They were not looking for bright red converts with chrome wheels and armor all tires. They asked me not wash the the cars if they were dusty as to just leave them dirty. Something to do with glare. They were also looking for boring colors,wagons,4drs. They would also pay extra for correct police, fire, ambulance and specialty cars

Veteran Posts: 214 | I use my cars in movie shoots all the time. Once a year something comes up. Recently I had my 60 Fury conv in Tales of the City, several cars in Birth of the Dragon and Big Eyes and others over the years. Forwardlook cars I’ve used are my 58 New Yorker; 58 Regal Lancer and 59 Coronet. They pay very well here in San Francisco, from $350 to $450 a day per car and more if they need you for driving scenes. It’s a lot of fun. They feed you well and you meet a lot of other car people. The hours can be very long sometimes but in the end it’s worth the payday.

I have noticed that there isn't as many time period movies being made anymore.

Veteran Posts: 214 | I use Green Acres Movie Cars. They’re based in Oakland. Who have you used? There are a handful of these companies. They all compete against each other. Some pay better then others

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | I used creative automotive consultants in San Rafael ca. That was in the 90s. They still have a website. http://creative-automotive.com/visualarts.html I checked out the green acres website and I don't see any contact info? I've noticed that some of the movie car companies are starting to charge a fee to the owner the car just to list it with the production studios?.?.?

Then it's a scam. They are already making money acting as your agent. Anyone that pays a fee is foolish and is wasting their money. Ron

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Here is one of the ones I was talking about charging a fee as a agent. I would only deal with local agency's http://www.movievehicles.com/memb_signup.php
