Cannot seem to locate replacement brakes for a 1960 Dodge Polara convertible we are restoring. Bernbaum nor Kanter can come up with the right package.

This particular car has 11" X 3" brakes front and rear with the front oddly enough having only one wheel cylinder per wheel. The car came to us in pieces so there is no telling if any of these parts are original to the car. One thing for certain is the rear end is the old tapered axle style which leads us to believe some MoPars of this vintage used 11" X 3" brakes.

Any clue is sincerely welcomed and appreciated. We are looking for new replacement wheel cylinders and shoes front and rear. All the other hardware has been restored to like new condition including springs, keepers, backing plates, etc. FYI: this particular car came to us with a 383 4 bbl engine and Torqueflite trans. Rear gears are 3.23:1. There are no data plates on the car for reference so we cannot determine when the car was built nor the plant location.

Please PM me if you can help finding these brake parts.

Maybe post some photos. Dodge's like mine moved to single wheel cylinder Bendix brakes, wagons had 11x3 all the way around. My 64 has 11x3 on the front, 11x2.5 on the back.

What you have pictured are Bendix brakes not Lockheed. Chrysler started using Bendix in 62 if I remember correctly. As Norm already mentioned, order brakes for a mid 60s Chrysler wagon and don't go to Kanter for them, just your local auto parts store. I believe the 11"x 3" rear brakes were standard on wagons and optional on sedans.

Now I am confused, I am not aware of Chrysler using lockheed brakes in 11"x3" configuration. J.F. can you post pictures?

OK guys,

These are the pictures of the parts I'm trying to get. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are 4 wheel cylinders, one per wheel. There is a right and a left wheel cylinder that has the line connection at a 45 degree angle but are opposite from side to side. The other two are identical.

It appears the brake shoes are the same front and rear.

I have to believe that these are available but why they were on the '60 Polara we are restoring, I haven't a clue. We cannot find a '60 MoPar that shows these as being used and no 1960 parts book we can find shows/lists them.

Looks like someone updated to the later Bendix brakes from after the change in 62? or 63? Looks like the fronts from my 64 880. 64 fullsize wagons had 11x3 front and back. I used Autozone Duralast 8737 drums on the front. Fit the 11x3 on the front of my car just fine. Used as slip-on, I believe they fit 65 or 66 Dodge Monaco. I have part numbers for some of the other stuff, I'll try to post them here as I have time. Got all my brake parts thru Autozone. Their catalog doesn't always look up the parts by application, but I would get part numbers from NAPA or Rockauto and cross them to Autozone.
