Hi Everyone,

I am new to this, but have just acquired a 1956 Dodge Custom Royal sedan for restoration.

Not sure of all the bits I'll need yet, but would like to find a pair of steel fender skirts. Can anyone help me?

Also while your reading this, I might also ask if anyone has a passenger side (RHS) fender mirror , that fits on the diecast fender trim piece.

Location: Under the X in Texas
In the parts book, the fender cap trim under the mirror for either side is unique to when the mirror is ordered. So you need to find the mirror AND the trim.

Hi,

I am also hoping someone who reads this might be able to post a picture of the fender skirts, outside ,and inner side also so i can see how they fit to the wheel arch.

Fender skirts are going to be a personal choice. Knowing a little about Virgil Exner and his love of exposed wheels, I am pretty sure that he would not choose fender skirts for the 56 Dodge.

I googled "1956 Dodge" and came up with many photos of 56 Dodges. However, only a very of those photos showed 56 Dodges with fender skirts.

Fender skirts were available on a newly ordered Dodge or Plymouth over the parts counter at the dealer and they were made by Foxcraft who also had them available in the aftermarket. Exner could not fight the dealer's need to put a few bucks in the till on the low end cars considering skirts had been in the auto industry since the mid 1930s.
Exner did, however specifically forbid their availability on Chryslers or DeSotos. But again in aftermarket you could buy them from any Foxcraft dealer.

Hi Everyone, WOW ! , I got lucky and have secured a set of NOS Foxcraft fender skirts.

Now just down to to the RHS mirror. Hoping someone has one in the shed and finds it soon ?

Also looking for a double groove pulley to suit the water pump if anyone has one.

Could be true, as Exner wasn't responsible for the jet-age look of the FL cars. The only car he designed solely by himself was the 60 Valiant,
THE ugliest car of the late 50s. Exner did not invent the finned Forwardlook car. The googiest car of the period, the 60 Fury HT, had fortunately
very low wheel cut outs and Exner didn't design it.
As we learned here on this board from a former designer working under Exner, the Chrysler excecutives wanted the typical late 50s look
(or "Ford look", IIRC) with long, low, wide bodys and giant overhang and they decided.
To make the wheels disappear, like a floating car, is a typical jet-age/googie period thing. You got a sense for it, or you ain't. If you ain't,
you will never understand. Like large, round wheel openings and sticking out wheels? Buy a new car.
