Just arrived today at 8:30 AM from "oldwood" in Arkansas. Had the engine running by noon, still needs a gas tank and fuel lines. Then brake MC, rubber lines and cylinders. Also needs a rear driver leaf spring. Slant 6, 3 speed on the column. Neat car.

My dad helped my unload and get the car running, he's really in love with it. I certainly appreciate them more in person than I do in pictures. This one isn't in great condition, but it's really not that bad. All glass is good in this one, trunk is solid. Floor boards need help, but not the worst I've seen. Wiring has been hacked into, most likely when the newer slant 6 was dropped into the car. Has the 5 freeze plug block and "peanut" heads, but lifters still sound mechanical. That points to a mid to late 1970s motor I believe.

I'm glad the car made it into someones hands that will appreciate it.

I have found a gas tank and leaf springs for this car. Long term I plan to swap the 3 speed for a 1959 Borg Warner overdrive as I've read it's pretty straight forward to do. I've been going through my trans, actually in very good shape so I'm mostly cleaning and re-sealing.

I also have a set of Magnum 500 wheels with good, matching tires that I will put on this for a while. Need to get it driving and stopping safely, then it can come home and I can actually make progress on it.

So long term, this car will have a 318 over the slant six. The engine is a 1960 that came out of my other plymouth. I have 1959 and 1961 bellhousings and they are virtually identical other than the transmission bolt pattern and bearing retainer opening diameter, so I will use the 1959 bellhousing to "adapt" the overdrive to this car. Below are pictures of the bellhousings, '61 is on the left and the '59 on the right in all pictures.

Worked on the '61 this weekend. Put the tank in the car, new rubber fuel lines, fuel pump and filter. Cleaned out the fuel bowl and freed up the float. Starts and idles great, need to take care of a few vacuum leaks and I need the lock ring that keeps the fuel sender in the tank. Link to video of engine running below.

You don't even like /6's. Not everything has to be a V-8.

Lock ring has been added to the sending unit. Also did an oil change and corrected some wiring issues so the car starts, runs and shuts off using the ignition switch. Alternator is not charging, I will most likely upgrade to a Mopar square back unit with electronic voltage regulator as the wiring for the original is all hacked up under the hood as well. Need to clean wiring up under the hood in general.
