Looking at the workshop manual today, I noticed that the 301/318 V8s for 1957 at least have a seal under the washer for the rocker cover bolts. Anyone know what they're supposed to be? I'm sure I can find a fiber washer or something, but am interested to know!

They are rubber washers:

Thanks! I don’t suppose you know the size for the washers? Mine are missing

I found some at a local hardware store. Looks like M8 are close enough, and an appliance hose seal is pretty much a dead match for the washer but in rubber.
