Location: North Australia | Some **** stole (took) the engine. This would be a very expensive car to restore, but could have a high value as parts, or an unusual modern custom car. My thinking is, it was a customized car when new, they should have used the 56 rear bumper though, I recon. Steve. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-Imperial/163895180363?hash=item2628e9f... Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | Steve, The 1956 Limos were left over 1955 limos, that's why they have the 1955 bumpers and wheel well openings. Chrysler made fin extensions to turn the rear fins into 1956 bodies, that is why you see the unique trim around the fin about half way up.

Location: Under the X in Texas | "Customized car when new"? They were a catalog offering. There were only two '56 Crown Imperials that were customized. Both by Derham Coachworks in Rosemont, PA.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9670 Location: So. Cal | Apparently there is another one for sale now. At first, I thought it was the same one, but it isn't. https://www.ebay.com/itm/153683939691?ul_noapp=true I think it could be fun to restore a couple of these and run a vintage limo service in your retirement. Well the first one went for a mere $3500 (probably as a motor donor to some hot rod). It was in much better shape than this second one. I sometimes fantasize about running a wedding car service with either my 56 Dodge or an Imperial. LOL. What is with the wheels on these limos? Both of them have vented wheels. One previous Imperial that I saved as an "Imperial Crown" did not: (1956-ChryslerImperialCrownShowingThe5x5point5wheels.jpg) (1956-ChryslerImperialLimo_VentedWheels_1.jpg) (1956-ChryslerImperialLimo_VentedWheels_2.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1956-ChryslerImperialCrownShowingThe5x5point5wheels.jpg (181KB - 124 downloads) 1956-ChryslerImperialLimo_VentedWheels_1.jpg (207KB - 111 downloads) 1956-ChryslerImperialLimo_VentedWheels_2.jpg (230KB - 129 downloads)

Location: Under the X in Texas | These Crown Imperials were originally equipped with Chrysler's Ausco-Lambert disc brakes. All disc brakes require excellent ventilation to dissipate their heat quickly. So the A-L "drums" are finned, the wheels vented, the wheel covers stood 1/2" off of the wheel and had a turbine of fins to force air through the wheels across the "drums". The disc assembly is within this style of brake. Location: Under the X in Texas | There are virtually none of these A-L disc brakes still being driven. Discontinued after 1956, the supply of NOS parts was quickly used up and cars continuing in use were converted, like my own '56 limo, to the convential Imperial drum brakes. It is thought this was done to my car during the original owner's time and he had passed away by '66 and probably sold the car by his retirement in '64 or even earlier.

Location: Under the X in Texas | Note, the first car in this thread IS a true limousine. It has a division glass which defines "limousine". The second car is a 7pass. formal sedan because it has no division glass.
