Hey, folks.

Just spent the last two hours trying to remove the center dash plate for the temp and fuel gauge. After painstakingly removing the left side stud, I can now see it is just a decorative plate and the cluster has to be removed from the back after the plate is removed...not to mention I have no idea how I will remove the right side stud on the decorative plate. Anyone have any tips on this?

I am 6’2” and 250 lbs...I managed to get my head under the dash and I can kinda see but there is no way I am getting my arms up in there to change out that voltage regulator. Time to hire a little guy???

That may be your best bet. A thin short mechanic who knows electrical stuff who can get his hands up behind your dashboard might just be the ticket. If you are anwhere near Mark Worman's shop, he looks like he could handle that. He's a bit of a ham though for the camera on his show, but he seems to know his MoPar stuff. His shop recently built a Christine clone for the SEMA show, so they understand the old FL cars apparently.

All kidding aside, you'll probably have to hire a shorter and thinner guy to get that done. Or else remove your front seat if it can't be moved far enough back in its rack to allow you to get up underneath the dashbord.

As written above, remove the front seat and use a plastic can as pillow. Shoot a lot of pictures with your mobile phone or camera so that you can see whee the nuts are. Since the dashboard was mounted as an assembly, MoPar never cared about accessability

These are invaluable and cheap now days. Worth every penny, useful for many many jobs. Once you have eyes under there everything becomes a lot easier.

Thanks, all. Even with removing the seat, it seems like my arms would be a bit too long to sort it out. I generally don’t touch electrical and plan to have someone completely rewire later this year so maybe I’ll just leave it alone for now.

51coronet, that’s actually a good idea. I can think of a dozen uses for that.

Old thread but what the heck. A trained spider monkey that can read and understand an FSM is very valuable in this situation. Still looking for one however.
