Expert 5K+ Posts: 7207 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | A very nicely restored 59 Custom Royal, built in Windsor. https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/dodge/custom/2435539.htm... The 1959 Canadian built Custom Royal used the same upholstery pattern as the US built 1959 Custom Royal, except with different fabric inserts on the seats, and with a Mylar insert on the door panel where there would be cloth seat material on the US version. 1957-1958 Canadian built Custom Royals used the lesser Royal Interior, since the Royal wasn't offered in Canada. In 1960 the Canadian built Polara reverted back to to using the interior from the lesser model, in this case the 1960 US Matador, not offered in Canada in1960. This one is optioned with power steering and power brakes, power swivel seats, auto headlamp beam changer, remote driver's mirror, RCA record player, dual antennae, and more. Missing such options as - clock, day-night mirror, padded dash, power windows,. etc. Funny thing in so many of Forward Look cars I see for sale on line, they all seem to have the air cleaner snorkel pointed anywhere but the correct angle. This one is wrong too. I find that the 59 Dodge dash, while not as space age as others especially the 1960 dashes, is a good looking panel, very well designed and very driver-centric. I’d really love to own a 59 one day. I like the hood ornament on these cars too. A lot don’t seem to have that option.

Note that there are a few individual additions that weren't available from the factory for '59, such as the record player and the rear exhaust ports on the bumper. Interesting to note the placement of the spare tire. On non-convertible 59 Dodges, it's on the rear shelf. Ron

Ron Typically the spare tires in the late 50s Canadian built Dodges were mounted over on the left side instead of up on the hump. My ex-1960 Polara CDN built had the spare tire in the left side as well. I also owned a 1960 US built Matador that had the spare up on the hump. Yet, the Chrysler and DeSotos built in either country seem to have all had the spares mounted over on the left side. Edited by imopar380 2020-10-01 9:57 PM
