Ok something I been wondering about. Has anyone been able to or have made replacement lenses made using a 3-D printer? I been wondering if true any filaments being made or used are truly able to do this.

they just mold them, its not super difficult. 3d printing wont produce a smooth surface.

Lenses can be actually 3D printed using transparent filaments. The results will likely be subpar, because the bubbles will disperse light inside the object, making the lens merely translucent, not transparent. Thus, printing with filaments is not ideal for clear/transparent objects. However, for a homogenous light distribution a translucent glass is advantageous, resulting in a glowing effect, see picture (left Front View, right Rear View). More suitable for transparent lenses are SLA-Printers, using as well the right resin as material.

For an injection mold production of lenses, multiple parameters based on experience must be applied. Today there are just a few companies offering this high quality standard. In any 3D-Printing technology, a 3D-CAD Model is the starting point, keeping the rules for stability, minimum thickness and easy demolding.  – SERGE –
