Veteran Posts: 295 | I thought the parts store could get the shocks because they are so basic but by application they show unavailable. Can anyone recommend a source? Wayne Edited by jaded13640 2021-05-14 1:26 AM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9670 Location: So. Cal | You need to get ones made for the 60's C-body, 1965-1973, and then cut the lower mount narrower to make it fit. I recommend you use KYB shocks, part no. KG4507. They work very well. Edited by Powerflite 2021-05-14 3:33 AM

Veteran Posts: 165 Location: christchurch New Zealand | HI Wayne, The KYBs 4507 is typically what i use, firms up the ride in the front, with little mods as described by another reply. A direct replacement shock is still available Gabriel classic 82072 and reasonably inexpensive and giving a good ride with reasonable handling. Geoff

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9904 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I got my KYB shocks through Rock Auto. Price was good. Not sure what the deal is with the KG4507s but with the KG5460s that I used on my 56 Dodge, I had to open up the slots in the ears so the bottom two bolts could fit. White KYB on the left (before the slots were opened wider) and the old NAPA shock on the right showing the fact that its slots had to be opened up too. Edited by 56D500boy 2021-05-14 11:53 AM

I was hoping that if I posted the photo of the mods needed on the KYBs for the 56 era, someone (I was thinking maybe you), would post a photo of the mods needed for the Torsion bar mount. You previously provided instructions but no photos (at least not in that thread): Powerflite - 2017-10-20 3:12 PM I recommend that you use KYB shocks. They perform very well and are well suited to our cars without costing too much. Use KG4507. They are originally designed for '65-'73 C-bodies, but work on '57-'61 cars if you grind the bottom mount down to make it smaller. (mark and grind evenly, with water on hand to keep it cool) You can get them from Summit Racing or Rockauto. The lower end of the shock has a steel sleeve pressed into the rubber bushing, just narrow the sleeve to fit into the u-shaped bracket on the lower control arm.

I recommend you use KYB shocks, part no. KG4507. They work very well. Those are the shocks I used on my 1957 Sierra wagon. They ride nice. I think I bought them from Summit Racing but they might have come from Rock Auto, don't remember. As stated above, grind a little off both sides of the lower steel bushing to fit, it wasn't much, maybe 1/8" total or 1/8" each side. Been awhile since I've installed them but it's easy to measure and figure out.
