Location: Alaska | In 1973 I owned a 69 Dodge charger with an 833 4 speed and was moving to Alaska. I went to a local Chrysler dealer to ask if there was anything I should change on my car and the mechanic I talked to advised i changed the oil in the trans. to lighter motor oil or atf, and that I could run it year round. I did that and it sure shifted nice at -20 or colder and never had any problems. |

Location: So. Cal | Newer manufacturers went with ATF because it has less drag and better efficiency. It might provide a little less protection, but the main drawback is that it can drain out easier if you have a small leak. |
