This last Tuesday we took the 55 Chrysler Green Falcon on a drive over Howland Hill Road in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, California. When we stopped for lunch people kept stopping to take pictures of the car. We caused a traffic jam. Even a ranger stopped to see it.

Fun! Your car looks great. I've always wanted to try out the 301 poly, but never able to pick one up.

I love drives like that through the mountains. I know what you mean by people crowding around the car. When we took our '58 Coronet camping in the sierras, there were a surprising amount of foreign tourists there and seeing my car brought a lot of fun reactions from them. People would get their pictures with it and hung around talking in foreign languages around it. I really didn't expect that.

Oh, it a great ’55 Windsor Deluxe Spring Special color combo:
The Platinum roof and body color with Heron Blue insert color – Paint Code 304!
Could you post your cowl tag picture to confirm that?
You may also decipher the letter codes of your cowl tag here!

I have a copy of the data card from the Historical Services. The paint code is 302, Platinum and Falcon Green. It is actually greener than it looks in the picture, and is very close to the DuPont paint chip I have.

It looks like the cowl tag is missing.

It has power windows, power seats, and AC. It doesn't have a radio or clock.

Not sure about 55 Desotos but 55 Dodges didn't get cowl data tags until about mid-May 1955.

Hello Stanford, thanks for sharing!
With your permission, I will consider the positions that interest me:

Model and Body Type on your card is 251 – Windsor Deluxe (2), 4 Door Sedan (5), no idea about last (1);
Paint 302 = Platinum roof and body color and Falcon Green insert color;
Trim 48 – I have never seen this trim code ever! I thought that I have full ’55 Chrysler upholstery listing! Do you know what this upholstery has named correctly?
Schedule No. 606 = your car scheduled on June 6, 1955; it car has 67 years old last week;
Schedule Item 0011 = eleventh car built that day

Now, the lower row:

TRANS 8 = Powerflite Transmission with Power Steering (3 – same LESS Power Steering)
GEAR RATIO 8 (or 6); 1955 Chrysler has five final drives: 3.36, 3.54, 3.73, 3.91 and 4.10;
I know the codes only two of these: 1 = 3.54, 2 = 3.36; what ratio your car has?
REF. UNIT 5 = Yes, your car has equipped with factory A/C;
WINDOW LIFT 2 = Power Windows – front and rear (7 – front only);
HEATER 4 = Hot Water Heater MOPAR model 700 (6 – Instant Gasoline Heater)
SOLEX AND VISOR 3 = Solex Tinted Glass at all window areas and Outer Sun Cap Visor (2 – tinted windshield only, 5 – clear glass and sun cap visor only);
SPEC TIRES 3 = White Side Wall Tires 7.60 x 15 4-ply
BRAKES 5 = Power Brakes (standard on New Yorker, optional on Windsor)
EL. SEAT. ADJ. 4 = Power Seat 4 Way (2 – same but 2 Way)
ACC. PKG. 5 i.e. Accessory Group 5 = includes Safety Group (1) and Custom Group (3) both:
Safety Group 1 includes Safety Cushion Dash Panel and Lights: Rear Door, Back Up, Glove Box, Hand Brake and Trunk Compartment;
Custom Group 3 includes Windshield Washer, Custom Steering Wheel, Left O/S Mirror and Exhaust Pipe Deflector

Definitely, it is your car!

As you said, the cowl tag is missing. 1955 Chrysler Detroit-built car cowl tags located on the firewall, below master brake cylinder (power brakes unit). Can you check it?

Dave,
The earliest mention of Chrysler cowl tags that I have seen is 1935. They have been installed on the cars since 1935.
The exception was the pre-war 1942, only Briggs factory body tags were installed without specifying the color codes, trim and options.

Here is an example of a 1935 Chrysler tag, where:

BODY ? C6BC – 1553 = Chrysler Airstream Six (C6), Business Coupe less Rumble Seat (BC), 1553th car built (1975 cars overall built with that body type)
PAINT 106 = Black
TRIM 321 = Tan Broadcloth; no idea about PG (there also codes DG)

Igor: The car in question is NOT a Chrysler. My comment relates to 1955 Dodges. Doesn't matter that 1935 Chryslers had cowl tags.

Each division tended to do their own thing so who knows.
