Expert Posts: 1477 Location: Pacific Northwest | 1960 was the year the alternator was introduced to the world by Chrysler on the Valiant. Some other models got it as well but 1961 was when the entire line got the alternator. I've read that the Canadian market was excluded from this introduction and their inclusion was delayed. The early models are referred to as "wide fin" because of the space between the cooling fins. The gap was so wide that Chrysler opted to install these covers. Most if not all of these covers were thrown away when they were replaced or rebuilt. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9674 Location: So. Cal | Most likely. Rebuild shops don't care about differences in castings and put them back together randomly.

I have seen this twice before on other cars? A rebuild error or ? My '60 Imperial is a late production car with an alternator and it has a half and half one. The rear case is dated 1967. I have my friend's 1961 DeSoto in my yard and it has a November 1960 dated alternator with the wide fins on both halves. Expert Posts: 1477 Location: Pacific Northwest | I am reproducing them "as manufactured". 22 gauge steel, painted and stenciled. Waiting to hear back from the fabricator. As soon as I do I will figure a price and get everyone a time frame for delivery. These are flexible enough to just bend and slip the clips between the cooling fins. I'll get a few more pict up soon.
