finally found some info ..... it said 21 pints ... soooo I just did an oil change and it took only 20 pints before it came out the filler tube. still don't have forward gears . something bad went bad in trans . now have to get the repair manual out and start searching what it could be . I'll post that info on another post .

did a pressure test on front pump driver side access plug hole..... it has 110 psi at idle 800 rpm . 1200 rpm is at 115-120 psi . looks high for some reason manual say 89-91 psi .
nothing wrong with reverse position . it goes into reverses and you can torque it with a ioad and works fine . it's just the forward gear has nothing. it will pull at idle and moves the car under own power.

Hi Shep  !   YES  Got Reverse . everything with reverse works fine . pulls with a load on it  and snaps right in gear when pushing the reverse button .

also found out when doing that oil change . It would not take 10 quarts .. only took 8 quarts and was tooooo much too. oil was dripping all over the place last night . then I dropped pan this morning and looked at what was on the bottom the pan and it was full of silver muck . screen filter looked fine ... clean . no pieces of fine metal anywhere in the pan . filled it clean oil again 6 quarts and did not drip a drop of oil anywhere . I think 6 quarts is the ideal spot with just a simple oil change not anymore than 7

.
Don't forget that the torque converter has a capacity as well as the transmission. IF the torque converter is full then the amount needed to "fill" the transmission will be lower.

At least that is my thinking.

In my case, same reverse only issue. The forward clutch drum snap ring groove area broke away and the was no forward engagement, this was a weak area in that trans.
