| I have a friend who wants me to send him
a 68 imperial from the states to Australia.
I understand there is a no asbestos brake policy in place.
68 imperial brakes parts are hard to find period.
What needs to done to get around this? |

Location: Perth Australia | Difficult one to answer, but best way is to get the brake shoes relined with non abspestos brake material and get a certificate that confirms it has been done.
It is better to talk too or get your friend to talk too the shipping agent they are using.
It gets messy if its not done correctly

I have only been told of a couple of horror stories, but in both cases they didnt do anything to the cars before importing them.
Most go through fine if the main wearing parts are changed and the paperwork is done.
I recommend using a shipping agent that deals with this all the time now. I have been told that it costs around $400 for the paperwork, but the part changeouts are (of coarse) extra
The horror stories involved long time in storage (costs a lot) and the costs to get the parts removed and tested or replaced. You are not allowed to do it yourself.
One person told me they sent the car back. They had to pay all the freight costs and sold the car back for far less than it cost them.

| Thanks for the replies.
Looks like it might be too much hassle
to deal with.
I could probably work with the brake parts.
Body sound deadening and undercoating
would be a deal breaker.
