Elite Veteran Posts: 731    Location: Finland | I am trying to identify a good looking joint I found in a corner. I have pressed it apart with my fancy home made 20 ton press already. The pin is 14,1mm diameter (0,55"?) and 73mm tall. The guide collar on the male part of the joint is 60mm diameter. The flange on the housing is 4" so it would fit on a 57- drum but I have understood that 55-56 pins are 0,7" diameter. I didn?t know ther are more than one pin size on 4" joints. Does anybody know where this belongs. It has beeb on my shelf since the early eighties. Previously, in a different (but related thread) I said: 56D500boy - 2019-05-06 3:23 PM Today I received another set of driveshaft bits. The rear looked good, i.e. earred Detroit cross U joint. Unfortunately, the front ball and trunion housing is 4.25" in diameter and the driveshaft tubing is 3" in diameter. Yes that is correct, the largest ball and trunion has the smallest diameter driveshaft tubing. In review: Ball and Trunion.......Driveshaft......Trunion Housing...................Tubing............Pin Diameter..................Diameter........Diameter 3.75".........................3.5".............??? 4.0"...........................3.25"...........0.625 (ish) inches 4.25".........................3.00"...........0.70 (ish) inches Recently, I have been trying to help Dieter in Schweitzerland with his front U-joint problem. This required that I clean up and measure a few things on the large B & T front U joint that I had gotten from Big M two years ago. Turns out that the diameter of the flange is 4 3/8", not 4 1/4". This would make a difference at the eBrake drum at the end of the transmission. The tubing diameter is 3 1/16" not 3" even. The pin diameter is 0.700+/-0.005" so no change there. I checked the PN of the B & T housings for the 1960 torqueflite cars (like Dieter's 60 Chrysler (300)) and it is 1739 920 just like it was for the 57-58 cars with Torqueflites. (The replacement ball and pin (roller bearings) PN is the same in 1960 and 57-58 as well, 1739 927. http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=71485&...  | ||

I just remeasured the two sizes that I have. The big one that I bought from Big M (for reasons I can't remember), is like 4 5/16" flange diameter with a 3" drive shaft tube diameter. The smaller ones that I have, which are the same size as my 56 Dodge V8 (non-spring loaded) front U-joint is either 3 15/16" or a flat 4" flange diameter. Bottom line, flange diameter.
