Would anyone have a BBD carb available for sale? It's for a 1959 Dodge CRL with a 361 engine.

Thanks

Excellent question because from what I see in the 1959 Dodge carb part number listings, I only see Carter and Stromberg PNs.

I thought most of the 361s had 4 bbl carbs but I see that the Ram Fire 361 did have a 2 bbl carb. I would have thought one of the Strombergs.

Carter BBD 2787S is correct carb for Custom Royal. I corrected my earlier facebook post. Also, there was no MD3-L. That is a typo in the parts book.

I am still skeptical about the "BBD" part of this conversation - but I would believe "AFB".

Found this:

"1959 MOPAR 361 Carter AFB Carburetor Carb 2787S Dodge Plymouth CHRYSLER Canada"

Sold out:

https://www.ebay.com/p/547930665#ProductDetails

And there is this (a bit pricy):

1959—1961 Dodge Carter AFB 2787s Carburetor *Remanufactured

https://www.ebay.com/itm/175845056959?epid=6006523807&hash=item28f12...

And a similar one but for a 413:

I have one available from a '58 DeSoto with a 361. Would you be interested in it? If so, send me an email.

Yes, for Dodge and Plymouth they were all AFB from 1958 on thru the end of the Forward Look era, and maybe beyond. I can't say for certain if they were also referred to as BBDs. That designation may have only been used for 2bbl Carter carbs.

"Carter two-barrel BBD carburetors were first used in Chryslers in the mid-1950s and continued right up until they stopped using carburetors on cars and trucks in the 1980s.

They are chiefly used in small displacement V-8 applications; however, some were also used on six-cylinder engines and a bigger-bore version was also used on some larger-displacement V-8s."

Maybe the OPs 1959 Dodge was a Canadian 361 with a 2 bbl Carter BBD? OR it was a 3-181 Stromberg?

The '58-up big block used a 2 bbl that had a 4bbl opening on it so you could use the same air cleaner as the 4bbl engines. So it's a different carb than what you are showing. This is what one of mine looks like on my gold '58 Firedome.

You guys are killing me. The 361 big block carburetor is the Carter BBD like the one I showed you on my DeSoto. The Stromberg is for the 326 Coronet. Don't believe everything you see on Ebay. To prove it, I show you the carburetors for '58-'59 DeSoto and compare them to the Dodge. Notice that the Carter BBD is the only one listed specifically for the 361, and it uses the same carb kit as the DeSoto 2bbl. Big block isn't the same as small block.

The big block 2 barrel will not even bolt onto the small block, it has a larger base.

Here is what a carb kit for a Carter BBD 2870 carburetor looks like:
