What size battery do I need for a 1956 plymouth suburban station wagon with a 1958 plymouth 318-A engine? Car has automatic transmission, ps, pb, a/c.

I use group 24. I don't remember which orientation, but pick with the positive post toward the rear. It's a little bigger than the original, so if you want it to seat on your original pad, it will overhang a little. A smaller version will fit on that better, but give you a little less CCA.

Jerry: I agree with Nathan. Group 24 for the 56 Plymouths and Dodges. (Group 27 which is larger was for the Chryslers and Desotos).

I bought my most recent battery for my 56 Dodge from Costco in 2018. Last year I bought a fake "tar topper" for it. Looks reasonably authentic.

The positive post is at the rear, closest to the fender mounted starter solenoid.
