At one time, I had a 1954 Chev truck that I wanted to run a 12 volt stereo 
in (Go figger). I didn't want to change the truck over to 12 volt. So I 
devised a plan to use either two each six volt batteries in series, or a 12 
volt battery with external straps between cells, and a 12 volt 
alternator/regulator charging circuit. I would then connect the stereo and 
any other 12 volt devices at the 12 volt connects, and the six volt 
accesories at the six volt points. Just need the room for another battery if 
you go with two.
