Well that makes one of us!!! I thought the car was a
runner when I bought it, but when I drive it I'll
probably forgive it for all of this.

Probably.

So:

I got the crank from my machinist.
I trust him as we go back 20 years.

I used lube correctly on all surfaces that require it
and not under/between anything that didn't.

I checked the caps and they are oriented correctly as
far as I can tell - just like their brothers.

Worst case: I buy a new pair as I did with the ones
that got fried when we started this up.

I'll pull the two off and have them checked. I forgot
to say that they are on different journals, and that
the other rod on each that's already installed does
not bind, consequently do not suspect the crank being
undersized or oversized - everything is stock.

My machinist said that he's seen them where they are
not 2.5 inches in diameter and need to be opened up.

I'm just happy that we're at 6 out of 8, which means
that this is just a little hump to get over.

Will take them out and have them checked.

Hopefully button the engine up Monday or Tues, drop
later in the week, and then reconnect everything.

Am not looking forward to re-connecting the shift
cable - will address that here later when I get to it.

thanks guys!
