RE: IML: 73 in the dark

If your headlights are working then your battery feed to the fusebox should be ok.This comes through a disconnect and a fusible link and then through pin 9 on the bulkhead disconnect. That is where the headlights picks up it's power from. You have two busbars(battery and accessory and each has their separate feed) in the fusebox from which the power is distributed. Sounds like your accessory feed is dead and this is coming through the ignition switch. The battery feed for this is through a disconnect, a fusible link and then pin 13 on the bulkhead disconnect. Then it goes to the ignition switch through a rectangular white plastic connector under the steering column. And then from the ignition switch to the fuse box. Note these power sources originate in the engine compartment at the same place but go through separate fusible links and different pins on the bukhead disconnect. I would pull that bulkhead disconnect off and look real close at the condition of those pins or wahtever you want to call the contacts. I have had them burn right off due to high resistance caused by corrosion. Use a meter and check for voltage here. Another trouble spot is the white plastic disconnect under the steering column. Same thing. My 72 nearly went up in flames because of a high resistance in this connector. I have been looking at a 1972 manual and I would think the 73 should be very similar if not the same.

First, thanks for the great responses...I have found out there is NO power getting to the fuse box at all..the only electrics that are working are the ones on circuit breakers(seats, locks, windows, headlights and dome lights)...all fused items are dark...I have checked the fusable link, and the cable from the battery to the bulkhead disconnect, and all looks ok..On these era of mopars, a lot of juice flows through the headlight switch...could that be the culprit..(even though the headlighs work??)

Thanks list,
